  1. i live in a flat part of central indiana and im set on breaking the 40K hour. our local TT course is a dead flat out-and-back. for those of you who know (i.e. from a power meter), how much power did it take you to break the hour?

  2. Won't it depend on your power to drag ratio??? Last year May I did a 40k TT (flat with little wind). Finished it in 1 hour and 4 minutes with an average power of 220w. Standard road bike with a very short clip on bar, 60mm front wheel. I weighted 130lb back then. Right now I weight about 133lb to 135lb. I would say for me to finish a 40k TT under 1 hour I would need 240w+ average, with my current setup (dedicated TT bike with wheel cover, 60mm front wheel, aggressive aero position, and a fulll blown TT cockpit). Of course, I have to get used to put out FTP in the TT position which I could only last about 20 minutes. Riding my TT bike makes me miss riding my road bike though. 🙂

  3. I'm 6 feet tall, 150lbs. On a standard road bike with 32 spoke wheels and clip on aerobars, I need 300 Watts to do 59 minutes on a hilly course.

I'm 5'7", 150 lbs and I can go under an hour for 40k on 250 average watts per pt pro with clip on aero bars on a flat and windless course. No other aero equipment.

  5. i forgot to mention this, im full aero. Zipp 909s, bladed "everything", giro advantage helmet, skinsuit, shoe covers, etc. about as aero as one can get.

  6. So you've spent a lot of money. Go figure it out!

i assure you that i will in time. but the purpose of my question is to ask others what they have experienced. do you have an experience to share. more specifically, how many watts did it take you to break the hour?

  8. 339 watts got me to 54:57.

    You didn't mention your weight.

Edit: Sorry, I misunderstood your request.

This is an "apples to oranges" comparison/question. Different builds/body types, different ride set ups, different weather, etc will all have an effect on the power required to break an hour in a 40km TT. You need to provide more detail with your question.

I weigh 70kg/154lbs, and riding a TT rig with deep section wheels(no disc), and TT bars, I did a 25mile TT in 1:00:08 with AP/NP of 239w/241w.

Your frontal area can also make a significant difference to the power/duration figure.

To reinforce your comment re: "frontal area". I weigh 180lbs and did a 23.3 TT on a very non-aero set up (32 spoke box section rims, round tube bike, etc - just aero clip-ons for bars). I did it in 1:00:28 and averaged ~260W

  13. I need to get a power meter....🙁
