  1. I noticed that after a 3 hr. ride the other day, the PT computer saved the information into 10 files..bleh. On some occasions, I only stopped for a minute or two for a red light. I set the wake mode for 4 minutes. Any clue on how to keep it awake for the entire ride so I get one continuous 3 hr. ride on one file?

Also, since I have 10 files from my last ride..anyway to link or merge these files into one...either in Power Agent or Cycling Peaks software.

Lastly, I noticed that the (10) files don't have a time tagged to them. After I uploaded the files into Cycling Peaks for review..I couldn't tell which ones were which. i.e. the first part of the ride or the last. You would think that the files were saved in the order of the ride..but it didn't seem like it.

    Thanks Rob

  2. When I download into Power Agent 7 I have the option to delete or merge files in the first dialog that opens. In Power Agent my files are sorted by date and time. You get a file for each "continuous" portion of the ride. So you get multiple files when you stop multiple times. I am not aware of a way of setting a threshold to eliminate that "feature". After I merge and save the merged file I drag it into Cycling Peaks via the Windows file manager. I like certain features of each application so that works well for me.

Joe- yeah, I must have missed that on my initial download into Power Agent- merging files. I'll catch it next time..thanks. In Power Agent my files are ONLY sorted by date..NOT time. There is no time showing up. The only time is the duration of ride time (column). Wonder why not? Yup, me too..I like PA 7 and Cycling Peaks both too. Thanks again. Rob
PS: If you have any idea on how to show the time next to the date..I'd appreciate it.🙂

  4. That is wierd cause I just did a short race with many breaks in the various warm ups that I did and got no drops and my CPU sleep is set to 1 minute. But the CPU sleep should't have anything to do with getting the file split up.

Some of by breaks were many minutes appart.

Good Idea about PA though cause my AM/PM was backwards and split my ride that way and I could combine them in CP but even after correcting the time and date in CP, the first half ended up at the end of the file.

I had about 1:30 riding during about a 4 hour period.

  5. So as not to start another PT SL 2.4 thread, can someone answer if the cadence on the 2.4 is wireless, how reliable is it and anyone have a picture of the pick-up on yur bike? I looked on Saris' site and didnt see any info pertaining to this part.

    TIA,
    Ray

You have a couple of options with the 2.4,
    1) Use the hub generated cadence - nothing additional required - just hub and computer.
    2) Use the Wireless Cadence Sensor - you can see a picture of it on the Saris site, if you look in the Cervo products. It looks clean, just a little black rectangular box that you zip tie to your chainstay - looks similar to the little yellow "GPS tracking/timing blocks" they use at the TdF.

There are some other posts on this forum regarding the accuracy of the hub gen'd cadence. I interpreted mixed results.

I just received the 2.4, and I went with the wireless cadence sensor - but I have only had a chance to do a quick round the block test to make sure it was working. This weekend I should be able to get in an inaugaural ride with the 2.4 and the wireless cadence sensor. I will report back after Monday.

    Hope that helps some.

Ah-I got it-thanks. I am afraid I need the real cadence option as opposed to hub only from what Ive read. I dont want to trade a slew of problems I already have with my PT SL (HR, Power dropouts) to a whole new set of problems with the 2.4 (more power, HR dropouts and now possibly cadence drop-outs).

I mean, I am already on my 2nd cadence sensor, 2nd wiring harness, torque tube, bearings, CPU and my units only got 9 months and less than 4000 miles on it. And I still have days when I only get 5 minutes of HR on a 2 hour ride, then the next day on the same roads I get all BUT 5 minutes of the data. Of course-all of it (except shipping to and my time without data) was taken care of by Saris CS!!

Wow, I've had my SL for 15 months and not even one problem - cadence, heart rate and power all have worked great. I'll get the occassional HR drop, but typically due to interference and at the same spots my Polar dropped.
I'll know more about my 2.4 luck after the weekend.

Ray, were you able to locate the picture of the cadence sensor?

yes-thank you. Is it an add-on to buy it or does it come with the 2.4?

Optional add on - $40 from Comp Cyclist

  11. I've used the 2.4 for a few months with no significant problems. very few data drops. occasionally erratic HR readings, but at places where other HR monitors act funny and no more than my polar monitor.

I use the estimated cadence from the hub (ie no sensor) and it seems to work very well.

In short- I am very happy wth how it has performed. Speed and cadence sensors bought separately (from saris among other palces) can be used to directly measure cadence instead of infered from the hub, or to use the 2.4 computer as a HR monitot/cycle computer when no powertap hub is installed. with 2 sensors you could have HR/cadence/speed/distance etc (as I plan to do on a disc-wheel mtb).

  12. I've been quite pleased with my 2.4 after a couple months of use. No dropouts to speak of and no problems in hours of rain. But if you are really concerned with accurate cadence numbers you'll have to get the sensor. The hub based one works well under high power but at low power/high cadences it comes up with some pretty wacky numbers.
