    So today I went for my first heavy rain ride and my power meter packed in for the duration of the trip from 25 miles in onwards. As soon as I got home hosed it all off from the grime and dried it with a towel to then start taking a look at whats what it now works again. Calibration value back to where it was...

    So my question is A) Has anyone else had a PM behave similarly and just start working again. Its like it doesn't like being in 10*c or something.
    and B) I have been thinking about how to try and "Waterproof" the unit myself a little bit so my next outing is more successful. I was thinking of just applying some Bearing Lube around the Spider and wherever looks deliacate but then I was thinking what about just coating the whole thing in a water Proof Spray like this:

    To me in a purely technological front it seems logical I am not aware of any damage it would cause to functionality (Please correct me if I'm wrong) I know their might be issues with Warranty and what not but right now that is looking like a complete hasslejob and possibly another £300 down the drain.

    So what of it. Any opinions or experience in something similar?

    Quarq Elsa, It was bought new but from the USA I'm in the UK. Had my dad who lives out there ship it over here. Purcahsed 17/08/2013

    I'd advise doing nothing to waterproof the power meter. Instead, you should contact Quarq as water ingress shouldn't be an issue. Did you see if water got in the battery compartment? Does the gasket to that compartment look undamaged?

    I have sent them a mail, just waiting for them to respond. I would have taken it back in a flash if id bought it from a retailer over here but ill no doubt get shopped by HMRC as always with this kind of thing so really sending it back to USA is the last resort. I should have just bought one here I know but that's done now cant go back 🙁. Nothing looked damage, infact not a scratch on the whole unit. Which is why I'm so surprised that on my first trip with some rain it went to [censored].

    Considering this unit is supposed to be their flagship and its supposed to have learnt all these lessons from the older gen Quarq meters its a pretty poor show but hey what can I do.

    Seems really wierd the way it was fixed within 10 mins of being home though I cant help but wander if it was something around the magnet that was the issue. Considering the Zero Offset was wild i doubt it but who knows. I'm also looking at my Garmin Skeptically the link there was that the ride was stopped, saved, garmin off. Back on 10 mins later and its all working fine. Be interesting to get an ANT+ Dongle for my iphone.

    Think ill pull the whole thing back off again and apply a generous helping of Bearing Grease to anything with a gap, will wash off worst case scenario and should at least provide some protection. Its a pretty solid unit and looks completely enclosed might just be a small creak.

    Well just incase anyone was considering buying a quarq elsa broken my 3rd unit now. All due to water issues. First 2 was during winter so I thought fair enough I can manage without it next winter. Today in the sun it broke after splashing the down tube with the hose and washing off the junction behind it. Didn't even point the hose at the PM!!!

    I only know one bloke who owns a quarq and hasn't had any trouble. There other 5 or 6 regreted buying them.
