  1. Right now I'm drinking a whey protein shake after the gym but I now
realize it doesnt have any carbs. I'm looking for a powder with whey
AND the necessary carbs (maltodextrin/dextrose). I've seen some on the
web but I was wondering what the people here use. Any recommendations?

I'd rather the shake but what other food or drink sources are good for
    carbs post workout?

    Thanks.

You could, maybe, if you can figure out the necessary steps, under the right
conditions, actually add sugar to your current whey protein shake. I know,
the math alone is enough to give me a headache, but, theoretically, it is
    possible.

If you, after putting the computer to work on the necessary fluid physics,
arrive at a shake with 50 grams of whey protein and 100 grams of sugar (and
5 grams creatine, but don't try to work that math into the equation yet),
    you'd have what I use.

    Good luck.

When I'm not picky about it, I find that a gainer powder has all the
right bits in the right proportions, and mixes well with water. I put
the right amount of powder in the shaker bottle and take it with me.
After the workout, add 1/3 of the water and shake. The 1/3 water
makes it mix better. After that's mixed in, add the other 2/3 water
    and drink.

I use CN's "Super Heavyweight Gainer 1200". It's got a bit higher fat
content than most people are looking for, but it's not much, and it's
got vitamins and minerals too. And tastes good.

At the moment I am picky, so I mixed my own - dextrose powder and ON's
"Any Whey" in water, blend. Good thing for strawberries or I'm not
sure I could stomach it :-P

I'll look into this thanks for the info. I add milk to my shake I don't
care if it's not optimal, I'd rather be a beanpole with toothpick arms
than drink a protein shake with water.

If you dread the thought of drinking whey mixed with water, know that
maltodextrin won't make it taste much better; another good reason to
    use plain old sucrose.

    Skim milk.

  10. I sometimes mix my whey protein up with gatorade and chill it using
frozen grapes as icecubes if I am taking it to the gym. It tastes good
and stays cold during my workout. I use these when I am not going
straight home for my regular smoothie.

this is what i do whey concentrate 25-30 g 0.5% fat milk around 50
    g table sugar
teaspoon of leucine and creatine, the leucine is quite
expensive but it has been shown in several studies that it kickstarts
the protein synthesis, but i dont think its been proved that it carry
over in lean mass increase to few studies

Thanks for all the info everyone. According
to my calculations (and a good site that
converts things to grams http://tinyurl.com/9mezf )
I need at least 3 tablespoons of sugar to get
a decent amount of carbs in my post workout
shake. Yesterday I tried 2. It was very sweet
    but still tasted very good.

So I'll use about a tbs. of regular sugar and
another two or more tbs. of maltodextrin. This
way I'll get my fructose and my glucose.

(notices fishing line exiting mouth and rising skyward)

Are you serious? You're adding table sugar to what? Why not just have a
    Coke and an apple? No.

Anyway, nice enough conversion link/html, but I don't think I
    understand your post-workout drink idea.

It appears you have not been reading the thread. Please explain the
evils of sucrose without referring to anything written by John Gohde.

If someone needs to explain the evils of table sugar to you, you are
an idiot. Try this: Raise your weights up with as much weight as you
can, and as you hold it have your BF, er I mean "spotter" put some
table sugar in your mouth. You will almost immediately lose strenth
and have to drop the weight.

I have memory lapses. Probably not enough table sugar.
