OK, so I just logged 30 miles on the "local" bike trail. Had to drive 40 miles to get to it but that is a different topic. Anyway, I parked at a popular rally area and the trail was pretty crowded for a couple of miles and then thinned out so I was able to get a good 25 miles of work in. Anyway, I finished my ride and started home. I passed a McDonalds that is a half mile off of the trail. The lot was full and it looked like every car in the lot had bikes on the roof or hanging off the back of them. It is a shame that these people work to take off weight and then put it right back on by rewarding themselves with MickeyD's. Don't they know that Burger King is the official post ride fat food restaurant😄?
What do you do for post ride nourishment? I have to shower first because I don't feel right eating when I am drenched in sweat. But I will usually eat a banana and an apple or pear right away. After that I fall right back into my normal atrocious eating habits. If I had been riding more than 30 miles, I would have taken food with me but I didn't have a lot of time for riding today, so all I took was water.

The assumption here though is that the dudes are riding to take off weight. 😉

Sounds familiar to me - following longer (20+ mile rides qualify as "long" for me) I usually chug some water and grab an apple or banana. I find I am not usually that hungry following a ride.
I generally eat better/lighter in the summer - whole grain cereal or wheat toast with jam for breakfast, horrid lunch (sliders - little mini-burgers - seem to be in vogue hereabouts and they are delicious), ideally snacks during the day are fruit or nuts but sometimes hunger necessitates a bag of chips, and my wife keeps me pretty honest as far as dinner goes.
But aside from that, I tend to figure that at least an hour of burning calories vs sitting on my ass daily (from my commute), plus (ideally) one major 2-3 hr ride per week burns TONS of calories, builds muscle (which burns fat), and so on and so forth.
When you say the your longer 2-3 hour ride must be burning TONS of calories, you might be surprised. Although it depends on your definition of TONS, because 1 pound equates to 3500 calories. This link is a handy way to show how many calories you are actually burning. I was expecting my numbers to be more, but it shows why my weight has hardly changed. wheelandsprocket.compage.cfmOpen ↗

Handy little counter - I was expecting more.
Of course, a 2-3 hr ride burning 2k calories for me is significantly more than I'd be burning sittting and watching Jerry Springer for 2-3 hrs, which was somewhat my point. 😉

I just used that to find the calories burned on my longest ride...
11,188 calories. 🙂
No wonder I was so tired afterwards!
Postride meal that night was two big servings of pasta, ice cream (about 1/2 of a pint of Ben and Jerry's), and a beer... Of course, I also ate plenty during the ride...
My postride meals vary greatly depending on the length of the ride. After anything less than 20 miles, I just eat normal amounts of food at the regular times...
