The question of my naivete aside, I think it's entirely possible that

Much of the time they do. Also, these doping programs demand full time
attentions. you cant say *I just dope in the off season*, you need to
be taking in at various intervals. The Fuentes scheme exist of using
Epo along with blood dope... and the various hormones as well.
An example:stated by Marc lotz (a dope user from the innocent Quickstep
formation) That epo remains undetectable if you only use it to maintain
your Hematocrit... you can use tiny amounts.

Considering some key-blood transfusion times for Phonak were in
multiple-stage tours it's incredible to believe that the team didn't
know. It goes beyond any stretch of the imagination if at least the
team doctors didn't see anything fishy.

it's entirely feasible that individuals can engage in questionable
behaviors without their teammates knowing about it, or participating in
the behavior if they do know about it.
Again: the team doctors would notice and getting a transfusion in the
Dauphine (Hamilton+Perez) without ANYONE noticing is quite simply
impossible. This implies that the team structure is rotten to the core.
Now we have Floyd, riding in a more than likely rotten team:
Phonak is a team on wich all prior (and some rather recent!) GC
contenders all were into the same dope.
1. Why does someone join a team like that?
2. Is Landis so blind not to notice anything funny?
3. Would the team all of a sudden go: Well Landis is so strong, let's
not dope him for a change.
Mark my words: We will see more coming from Phonak, it's one of the
dirtiest teams around.
These pushers need to be stopped. Not to hurt Floyd, but to get him
away from these criminals.
