I like all but the last 😉 Fire/horse trails can be boring, if they're
what I think they are...

ATV trails are good too 🙂

It seems, by a very, VERY wide margin, that Muni doen't come close, in
popularity, to trials/street riding. Pretty much the same for
freestyle-or at least -strictly- freestyle; at least based on the posts
I've read. Also the vast majority of -videos- posted seem bare this
out. Predominently, trials/street. What's my point, you may ask? No
particular point, just an observation.🙂

Well, really, I think the main reason there is a lack of muni videos is
because you are constantly on the run, making it difficult to film. I
can't really think of any excuses for freestyle though, maybe people
feel like they've seen it all?

I chose all but the first one, since that's the only one I can't really
do yet.

Moderately technical sections of offroad are fun because it gives a
good challenge (I'm still pretty new to Municycling).

Rolling trails and the forest-like conditions are good for casual muni,
where you want the little thrills of offroad, but still just relax
while you ride.

The last choice I really only put just because I love all offroad, and
didn't want to seem prejudiced. :eek:

I was also basing my comments (and therefore drew my
["flexible"]conclusion(s) on the predominence of postings *talking*
about muni-it simply pales in comparison to all the dialog about
trials/street.😄

The single biggest reason for the lack of more hard core muni riders is
the lack of suitable terrain. How many people live close to
world-class downhill single tracks or mountainsides where they can
actually practice? And unles you can practice, it's almost impossible
to develop advanced muni chops or the fitness to clean the longer
runs.

In places like Santa Barbara where the trails are good and abundant,
few riders dink around with street or trials or freestyle. For street,
all you need is an urban area with a few obstacles and you're good to
go, hence the popularity. Plus a lot of street riders are basically
kids with no transport and when you want to go riding, street it is.

You get good at what you practice, and you practice what's convenient.

At Moab, my favorite kind of trail was the downhill more technical stuff
with lots of rocks and drops and stuff. If any of you went to moab I am
talking about some of the stuff on Sunday's trail. There was plenty of
"dirt road" riding which I really hate. Oh and I don't like anything
that has to do with uphill.
I would vote for one of the first 2, maybe both. I am not really good
at muni (my riding at moab was the only muni I have ever done) but if
its not at least a little technical then I find it pretty boring. I
like the muni where there are hard lines that I can try over and over
again much better than just easy stuff I can ride through really
effortlessly.

I think maybe you have to ask the "kids" (MANY trials riders a NOT kids
and actually HAVE driver licenses) if they HAD the opportunity, would
they RATHER be riding muni, or would they still prefer trials/street.
The answer might surprise you.

i ride muni on a 19"trials so i like it to be quite techy and not so
much riding but i do like a little riding so i chose the second one.

Sounds like someone hasn't been riding in the South Bay... We've got
the Pogonip, Wilder Ranch, and the Soquel Demo forest all within a

Do I really need to point out the observational error here?

First of all, the trials/street movement grew out of video
(particularly Dan Heaton's work), so it is perfectly natural that
people doing street are more likely to film and post their stuff than
people doing MUni. Street is about style, which lends itself to
video.

And in case you hadn't noticed, the forum has been overrun in the past
year by teenaged males, which is exactly the demographic that is doing
street/trials. If the forum were filled with teenaged girls instead,
we'd be hearing about freestyle all the time, and if it were filled
with thirtysomething Californians, it would be about MUni. To take the
demographics of the forum and extrapolate the demographics of the
unicycling population as a whole is highly fallacious.

When's the last street/trials event which was attended by 169 riders?
[Crickets...] And NAUCC is larger than that.

Im a teen-aged male, and i love muni! Particulaly very tech rocky stuff,
keeps my brain active and gives me a challenge! Though i do ride street
more than muni. I am thinking about making a Muni vid, what do you guys
think? Sorry if im going off topic a bit.

"South BAy", you must mean San Fran (As in the "BAy" area) because the
South Bay -I- live in is in Los Angeles County, with Redondo Beach for
example.

I like anything technical and steep. The harder the better. Singletrack,
Northshore/freeride stuff, big drops, rocks, roots, short steep
sections. Also some fast smooth downhill sections dodging trees....I
love it all. 🙂 I don't much care for uphill, except for short steep
challenging ups....

I like a mixture of rolling singletrack and technical rocky sections. I
don't care much for big drops though. Basically, I like trails that
would be considered rough cross country in mountain biking terms.

That's all I have the chance to practice when everything is snowy (and
slippery and dangerous and bad for learning on) and I'm restricted to
straight flat out rides outside on plowed paths or freestyle inside.

Guess which one is more interesting 😄
