Which is what I've already got, except with toeclips on 'em.

hmmmm, you made me look (at mine) :-)
But there's no apparent wear on mine. However, I do keep my
toeclips mounted fairly outboard.

My size 10's almost fit my toeclips. I'm using plastic
Mt Zefal's MTB clips & cordura straps. I don't (can't) cinch
the straps with the work boots, though. But with my other
shoes,they're actually quite extractable, even when cinched.
IOW, they're definitely /not/ like a secure, track bike system.
But I wouldn't use them on frozen surfaces, either. I've got
rubber flatties for that. If & when I get used to riding on
snow and ice.
