Polar S720i and Windows XP?

Maybe you could run the interface software in win95 compatibility mode. Worst case, you could set up
a dual boot with xp and 98, and run the interface when booted in 98.

I appreciate that you are supplying possible solutions but I need to establish if there is a problem
or if it has been cleared up by newer drivers.

Pete,

The RS232 version of the IR interface works fine under XP. It's cheaper and plenty fast enough.

It works fine for me with the polar USB IR interface on XP. However, I first tried it with a non-
polar USB IR port and couldn't get it to function.

I had a problem with mine last summer. After going back and forth with Polar, it was discoverd that
I do have one of the few XP systems that will work with neither the serial or USB interfaces.

In January Polar came out with a new USB interface (un-announced publicly) that works with XP. Polar
swapped out my old interface for a new one. The ironic thing is that the day before I recieved the
new interface I had a change of laptops- and the new one has an IR port which i use instead. I have
not tested the new interface to see if it works- no need now.

As a note: I did try an aftermarket IR port (USBGear U4 IrDA adapter)- didn't work to solve the
Polar problem

Call Polar. Be patient - their hold times were > 10 minutes last time I called. I would also make a
list of all that you have done to solve the problem, so that they will quickly understand the
situation. Good Luck

I'm running 710i (same internals as 720i; different case) and XP.

No software problems, but you _have_ to use the Polar USB/IR thingy -- none of the other USB-IR
dongles seem to work. Make sure that you have the latest SW download from Polar.

The builtin IR on my older Win98 laptop worked fine with the 710i, but apparently the Polar only
worked by accident. On later IR implementations, when the spec was tightened up, Polar IR
compatibility was lost.

I haven't heard how the 725 works. Does it use Bluetooth? a smaller USB connector?

I'm actually more concerned about the inability of the 710i/720i to deal with electrical
interference. It would be nice if the 725 dealt with this better.

I use my IR Interface with a S710 on XP. Never had a problem.

I just got a USB IR working with XP...was kind of trial and error. Make sure you follow polars
instructions about not plugging in the USB before loading the software.

Mine works fine now.

When I got mine last year, out of the box it, did read the USB. I went to the Polar web page,
downloaded an upgrade to the software and that fixed it.

I've been using my S710i with XP for over a year without any problem. I have the IR interface
and it's a little funky at times if things aren't lined up right but overall, there haven't been
any problems.
