As a callow youth I studied geology. On one occasion I was mapping a
series of folds, and my map showed a very curious formation - all the
folds were radiating from a single point, like a fan. I compared notes
with my colleagues, but they all had a more conventional arrangement of
parallel folds. Further investigation revealed the source of the problem
- the 20lb iron geological pick I was carrying over my shoulder.

Actually, there is a very real possibility that the magnetic poles will shift
.... actually, reverse ... it will start with pockets where there is no magnetic
north ... then it will spread ... and then the magnetic field will collapse ...
then, they reappear and you have magnetic south.
