Polar cadence magnets

  1. What's the best way to get the Polar cadence sensor to work with any kind of magnet? It seems like
    they never tested this in the real world cause the magnet is so close to the chain when the crankarm
    is near the chainstays it can hit and either move the cadence magnet or dislodge the chain.

  2. I slid my magnet upwards a bit so it doesn't protrude at a 90 degree angle. Maybe 20degrees. This
    gets it further from the chain and I can still adjust the sensor so that it comes close enough.

    On the funny side. The magnet seems to make a sound every time it passes the chain. Has anybody else
    heard this? It doesn't touch, just close enough to kind of make a noise more like a very subtle
    static electricity shock.

  3. I have a better solution. I use the radio shack rare earth magnet. 2 for $1.79. Each one is about
    1/8 in diameter. Very small & very strong. I superglue it to the inside of the crank. It hold up to
    all kinds of weather. I've had my one for over a year. Plus with being so strong the signal pickup
    isn't so finicky.

    What side of the bike are you using the sensor and magnet?

    I use the Sigma system with the magnet strapped on the the *left* crank and the sensor fastened to
    the left chainstay. No problems whatsoever. Must the Polar system be mounted on the chain side?
    Sounds like an accident waiting to happen, with all that chain flying around . . .

    You can of course mount the Polar cadence sensor wherever it suits you the best. Since I happened to
    have my speedsensor on the right side and my watch also it was kind of logical to mount the cadense
    sensor on the same side. It may and it may not work with the transmission from left to right.

    I actually feel that the cadense sensor is a little more protected on the right side just in front
    of the rings. At least I'm not so suceptible to kicking it when mounting etc. As for the magnet I
    solved that by twisting it upwards so that it doesn't really come close to the chain at all.

    No, I mounted mine on the non drive side. No problems.

  8. Thanks to all for the suggestions. Put on nondrive side now. I had the Polar power dealie before and
    just kept the magnet on the drive side for foolish consistency... Doh.

  9. How about you put the sensor and magent on the NON CHAINRING bearing crank of your bike.
    Works for me.

    Have you tried it for the speed sensor as well? I get constant jumps in speed for one sample and I
    always have to fix them with the software error correction. It is a pain the butt and it also means
    that average speed and trip distance is off until I fix the errors.
