[censored] in a little Lotus Elise, possibly travelling well in excess of
70mph. Approached home to see a police car closing off our road, a
pranged (really pranged) Fiat of some sort, and [censored] in t'Lotus
broadside. Poetry in motion.
Had a word with both officers, one said he's got a lot more on his mind
at the moment. That shocked me - I had a [censored]-load more on my mind as
[censored] in t'Lotus hammered past me even though I was lit up with four
CatEyes, flourescent jacket, flashing ankle band, and a flashing LED
Backupz. Other copper reckons he's looking at a good few points and
said he'll have a word for me.
In your position I would file an official complaint against him. The
Fiat driver might be interested in your story also. Normally I don't
like the idea of kicking a man when he's down, but I'd be prepared to
make an exception in this case.
Plod didn't seem *that* interested, particularly when I commented that
road tax doesn't afford car drivers any additional rights (other than
the use of motorways and some dual carriageways, I suppose). Just after
I posted an ambulance turned up, but I think that was just to deal with
shock. The Lotus [censored] was getting a right earful from his better
half, so I wouldn't expect him to be getting any boobie-play for a
while.
It looks as though he overshot a T junction in a 30 zone, residential
area, and the fiat hit him from the side. There wasn't much damage to
the Elise, though I imagine that the entire driver's side will need
replacing. The Fiat was caved in at the front, but the doors opened and
the windscreen was intact.
I've only been cycling since the summer, and only took it up as training
for the Great North Run during a long summer of injuries. This is the
second near hit I've had, the previous occasion resulting in bruised
knuckles as I put a dent in the side of a taxi as it side-swiped me.
Still, his dent and not a scratch on my shiny new bike 🙂)
