Having had my 3rd puncture in 2 weeks, I am at my wit's end with these Maxxis Detonator tyres. It takes a small spec of glass, and I mean a really small spec of glass, and my tubes start deflating. I don't think they're even specifically designed for training in winter although they have dual compount treads.
This is what I'm looking for; 1) A winter tyre that places reliability well above speed and lightness. I don't care how heavy it is or how much rolling resistance it creates, I just want to know that it will minimise my chances of puncturing considerably so that I can enjoy my ride without having to stop all the time to replace tubes.
2) Price - so long as they are not obscenely expensive I don't care how much they cost. After all the hassle of puncturing so often in the past 2 weeks I just want a quality product so I'll pay for really good ones if need be.
I don't know if you're looking for a road tire or not but.... I have been using Continental Ultra Gator Skins. They have little for what you would call tread. They are very light but one of the layers in these tires is kevlar (you know ...what they make bullet proof vests out of) The tires that came with my bike lasted about 50 miles before I got a 10mm cut in them. Don't know what I ran over. Bur I put another 800 miles on the gator skins and no flats so far.

I had a similar experience early last month. I was running Hutchinson tires on my roadie, and got (I actually lost count, but something like) 12 flats in about a week. I switched to Vredestein Fortezzas, and have had no flats since then, except on my other bike (and that was due to tire wear after close to 2000 miles on my Specialized Houffalize cross tires)
