My tourer has been sitting in the lean-to ever since I had one too many unfortunate encounters with hard objects earlier this year.
I finally decided that I really must get around to getting it back on the road but (along with a few other niggling problems) the rear derailleur seems misaligned with the block and I don't seem able to adjust it successfully. I've concluded that I really need spend some money and pass the problem on to someone with greater knowledge and experience. There seem to be quite a few people here who live in the SE London area so can anyone recommend an LBS in the Orpington area?

If the derailleur is misaligned and can't be fixed you have probably bent it and need a new one.
You may possibly also need the hanger bent back into shape (or a new drop out depending on bike type).
To check for this look at the derailleur cage, it should be vertical (well on sora anyway ;o).
While I've ruined a few derailleurs in Orpington, I've never had one fixed there so can't help with a LBS, sorry.

I've heard good things about them before ... but was hoping for somewhere even more local.
Ruxley Cycles in Main Road, St Paul's Cray and the little shop on the one-way system at the ponds end of Orp' High Street are the nearest LBSs to me - have you ever been in either of them?

That's true. It's just that I anticipate I'll need to leave the bike with them to sort out so it was the walk back that wasn't filling me with glee, but TLOML is going to help so I'll prolly be heading over to Hayes quite soon.

There is cycle shack up st mary cray, stanley way. He once tightened up my crank when it was falling off, but thats all I know of him.
