  1. I want to do the 1st major stage from London to the coast.

I also want to be in Hyde Park.

I want to join other cyclists on the 7/7/07

    I also plan to do

    London-> Cambridge
    London -> Oxford
    London -> Southend
    London -> Windsor

So, anyone else? .. I like to start planning around now ...

I have been looking forward to the return of the Tour for years. However
I am so disillusioned with the drug situation I am not even sure if I
    will bother.

My plans for the year [1] are centred on Audax riding

    1. Do one Audax ride every weekend unless I'm cycle touring. [2]
    2. At least five of the Audaxes to be 200km
    3. Get some AAA points
    4. Qualify for 500km Randonneur, 500km Brevet, 100km Brevet, 2000km Brevet,
    3000km Brevet awards
    5. If if feel up to it. late summer, do a 300km ride and qualify for a
    1000km Randonneur award

[1] Commencing mid-December 2006 - an arbitrary date that marked the start
    of the Xmas hols
[2] I had considered doing LEJOG as 14 x 100km BP rides but thought that
LEJOG three years in a row might be a tad boring.

So far I've done 7 x100km rides but only six of them qualified as I did one
    ride before I'd registered it...doh!
    I'm doing a 100km DIY ride tomorrow
I'm out for the 120km Mini Northwest Passage this Saturday then it's back to
DIY 100s to fill in the gaps between the calendered events.

Oh yes one more thing...if I could get below 20 stone I'd be quite happy
    .......

Errrr....my plans for the year are to get enough time off from my
daughters' A level preparation, learning to drive and party/boyfriends
taxi to find some time to go out for a ride. These days I am mostly
only getting to cycle for commuting and business.

I am encouraged to leave the premises every weekend to give my long
    suffering partner a break from:
the bickering between me and our boys,
the detritus that I drag into the house from my shed
the banging and clattering downstairs that ruins her lie in
the clutter that I spread around the house
    winding up my daughter's friends
playing my eclectic collection of Russian shamanist trance music
need it go on? ;-) .................

I do fit in the domestic stuff. My son will, at the drop of a hat decide
that he, along with a large Amp/combo and Fender bass needs to be ferried to
a rehersal or a gig and picked up at unearthly hours which can not be
divulged more than ten minutes in advance. I'm so grateful that his
A-Levels in the art farty and humanity subjects are outside my ability to
    assist with ;-)

I'll probably have a party or barbecue that weekend.

I would strongly advise booking a room in the Rotherhithe YHA for that
    weekend NOW.
If you prefer hotels, there are a whole line of chain hotels in
Southwark Street and Southwark Bridge Road, which are positioned for the
Tate Modern. Accor, Ibis, Novotel, Holiday Inn Express and a Premier
Lodge at the Anchor pub beside the river in Bankside.
    Book one of these now.
These hotels are a hop and a skip from the first stage route.
Indeed, the first stage comes south over Westmister bridge, then along
Upper Ground and north over Waterloo (?) then along the Embankment to
Tower Bridge, where the racing will start.
So if you have a hotel in Bankside all you need do is stroll over
Blackfriars or Southwark bridges and you are on the race course.
You can walk or take a Jublilee line Tube to the prologue course, or of
    course bring your bike.

I recommend the Rotherhithe youth hostel, as this is only 200 yards from
the roundabout on Jamaica Road which the first stage turns round.

  7. Here is a good list of hotels and budget accomodation

I'd have thought someone your age would already have a driving licence.

Your boyfriends should be old enough to pay for their own taxis.

Then avoid wacthing/supporting any professional competitive sport.
This is not defending drug-taking in cycling, but it is saying don't kid
yourself that it's only in cycling so it's cycling that requires to be
    shunned.

Probably the old blue K*mp*v*n again from start to finish if she runs as
well as last year - should be an easier more classic route with only the
    penultimate day involving long drive....

I feel so much the same, since the tour last came to the UK - and the time
    before.

The sport of cycling has really gone down the pan and the drug issue
overshadows the whole sport. However, I shall still probably attend, as
while it is tainted (I'm trying to be kind) by drugs the TdF is still a
terrific spectacle - I know I'm putting myself up to be called a hypocrite.

At the top end cycling is now like a circus and I put it on a par with the
World Wrestling Federation and the glitz and excitement that that creates.
But, like wresting, its not a sport I would now encourage youngsters to
    enter :-(

At the other end of the scale it is elderly wizzened men chasing lorries up
and down dual carriageways; but keeping my hypocritical hat firmly on I'll
attend those too, as they often have good teawagons ;-)

    ....and cake.

But I am a real confirmed hypocrite, as my son is soon off for a week at
Calshot where he will be riding the track.

Now racing the boards, and especially Six-day events - that is even more of
    a circus.

Oh dear. My head hurts :-(

I know what you mean, but specifically in cycling. We have a huge
scandal in Operation Puerto for which no one seems to be in trouble. We
have last years TDF winner under a cloud about steroids. Museeuw

Don't forget that there's other sports involved in Operation Puerto. When
the scandal first erupted tennis and football were mentioned. Funny how the
media seems to concentrate only on cycling, though :-( Watched a snippet
from 'Overcoming' today - the section where Duffers is nattering. He's a
very sensible man. He talks about doping in sport. He feels that cycling is
concentrated upon because it's an easier target than the *huge* sports such
as football, where powerful financial interests rule. He may well have a
    point.

    Three here :-(

One just left tho' and is now very mathematical at Uni of Kent, pedalling
up and down the NCN 1 to do her shopping and bellringing.
The second has been out at Bath Uni today looking the place over.
Third has still to hit GCSEs

Thankfully no driving lessons for any as they've been brought up right :-)

    Boyfriends are a pain tho'.
