Pizza in Old Forge PA

the best pizza in the USA. In the current issue of American Heritage, a
letter to the editor states that Old Forge,PA is known for the "worlds" best
pizza and has more pizza places per capita than anywhere else. I looked on
the net for information about pizza in Old Forge, but could not find
anything. Does anyone know anything about pizza in Old Forge?

Quite familiar as I have friends and relatives there, go back often and
used to live in that general area.

What would you like to know?

I will just caution you on one thing though. Once you have had real
pizza you won't want to touch the Pizza hut/Dominos/whoever else "pizza
like product". I worked at a major company there and we had frequent
visitors who would come for a few days regarding their purchase. When we
took them out for dinner we would take them to a spendy restaurant and
also to one of the OF pizza places. Everyone would rave about the pizza
and never mention the upscale place. Repeat visitors would specifically
request going to OF when they visited us. Some would even call and ask
if we could arrange sending pizza to them.

What are some of the pizza places you might suggest?

No web site, small place, *good* food.

And if you want to try a really unique hand crafted pizza go about 3
miles to the south. Cebulas bar on main st in Dupont,pa. They only bake
3 nights/week so call if you decide to go. The dining room looks the way
it did in 1950.

I'm still tapping my fingers about "the world's best pizza." I realize
that is a very subjective claim.

I live in the Philadelphia suburbs. From center city, you'd have to walk
20 miles to run out of pizza joints. You'd be in MY town. 🙁

Well worth checking out. The place I mentioned in Dupont is now operated
by the third generation of the same Polish family.

pasta and open a can of tomato sauce has tried running an "Italian restaurant"
with a menu that includes pizza and various shapes of pasta with a red sauce and
lasagne, but little in the way of good Italian food.

It is the bane of the local food writer's existence, the red sauce Italian
restaurants on every corner (as she says). It's probably true that when
people want Italian, that's what they are looking for.

Every menu is the same, but the same can be said for Chinese food,
at least around here. Interchangable.

Thats what is interesting about the restaurants in the town under
discussion. Collectively they take great pride in their product and try
to outdo each other.

my experience in eating Philly pizza is that the Greeks make the best pizza
in Philly.
