Welcome to the group! I know posting to usenet with webtv isn't easy, but you've avoided a lot of webbie pitfalls like posting in all caps and posting with an HTML sig line.... so you're ahead of the curve.
I wanted to let you know that I'm finding your posts hard to read because previous quotes aren't attributed with > marks and there is no spacing between the quoted text and your reply. I think quoting with a right angle bracket ...>... is called "smallify" in webtv talk. Hopefully there are other webtv posters here who can jump in and tell you how to do it.

Dunno...WebTV has no quote text editor, you have to put the ">"'s in manually...
I used WebTV for three years back in the day (starting in '98) it was always called that...
I pretty quickly discovered free Usenet services like Remarq and Deja, so I didn't have to deal with the ghastly WebTV "newsreader"...
Dunno why WebTV still has Usenet capability, there are still some older boxes around that have it. The newer WebTV box, known as "MSNTV" has no Usenet capability at all...even the MSN ISP dropped Usenet years ago, strange.

Google has it's own set of problems. For one, they need to bring back the "tree" so threads can be easily followed. Another feature they need to add is the ability to filter out titles, authors and key words.

Look at "Options" at the end of the line after the Subject (in gray)

I see "hide options" above, not an option for a "tree". So, what do they call it? I went to the main RFC page, clicked on "Ping: Smitty AKA: JS re: smallify text" in the right hand column under "Active older topics" which took me to the message page. At the top of the message page, I see:

The lamest port of this is that it appears you have to re-select this option for each and every thread you view. The option doesn't stick between threads.

For me, it stays as a tree with any thread I view. Not sure if I did anything different than you did though.

Maybe because I forbid Google setting cookies on my machine. Evil.

Much better Smitty.... my newsreader didn't translate the larger text, but that break makes it a lot easier to read. Did you look at either of the two sites that smaillify text for you? The > is an attribution mark. Take the number of > in front of the text and minus one at the address so you can tell who said what.

I have an older 'classic' box that I bought in 1998 at Big Lots for $59.00,mainly to email my family.I liked it because it served my perpose,got free upgrades,and didnt want to shell out $2000 dollars for a computer just to send email.The new MSNTV Ive heard is hell to a lot of users.My old set works fine.Ive done some nice webpages for friends..very happy with it.AOL screws up a lot when people send me photos(comes up blank) and various other browsers..Im computer -deprived you might say. Type your reply into your newsreader, previous quotes and all (trimming as necessary)... copy and paste it into the site, so when you click "smallify" the quoted text will also get another >. Or maybe you can't copy and paste. I'm not familiar enough with webtv to know. If you don't have a mouse, the keyboard strokes are copy: ctrl c paste: ctrl v
