I bought mine from chefscatalog.com They don't ship outside the US.

My mill is the 11" Brass one with straight bottom, it is clearly
marked:

"ATLAS"
"PEPPER MILL IMPORTS"
"MADE IN GREECE"

Perhaps this info will help you locate a source in Australia or one
that will ship to Australia... googling found other sources.

There's really no need to "check anything out", this product is simply
far and away the best... does exactly what it's supposed to do and does
it very well. If you're worried it is too tall and will be knocked off
your table, relax... I place mine lying down, the big crank handle will
prevent rolling. Out of curiosity I just now placed mine on my kitchen
scale, it weighs a full two pounds and it's built like a tank... it
will easily last a couple three lifetimes.

Sorry for putting you to a repost. In fact I saw your original, but
was waiting for some feedback from a local hardware store as to
whether they thought they might be able to track it down before I
responded. It does look like I may have to correspond with one of the
American suppliers of the product to find out how to contact the
manufacturer -- if they'll tell me! :-) [I haven't managed to track
down a direct .gr link of any use over the Internet so far.]

I don't think importing from a US retailer would be very cost-
effective when one adds in the delivery charges plus 10% GST on
landing here. :-(

As it is, on the current conversion rate, I would be looking at around
AUD95 based on advertised US prices around USD70. Would you have paid
$95 for it?

Sure I would, considering the cost of other pepper mills and how much
better this one is I'd gladly pay the price. In fact I paid US$70 plus
US$15 shipping, so the cost wasn't far off, and I paid that more than
five years ago, in a less inflated economy, so in reality I actually
paid more dollars than you. I really can't consider the dollar
conversion rate as that is a factor of Economy and applies to
everything, I'm sure you pay more AU dollars for everything.... but
it's only a number... how it's arrived at is what you really need to
consider. I suppose in the final anayisis if one really wants a pepper
mill and is willing to pay a few dollars more for the best then they
will pay the price, just like with every other thing one buys. Of
course if buying this thing means your family wont eat for a month than
forget it... no one needs this pepper mill (no one needs any pepper
mill) it's just a nice thing to have.

True. I think it's the challenge of trying to find the thing here
that's motivating me more than the desire to own it (and I certainly
don't *need* it -- hell, I've been putting up with my present decrepit
piece of junk for 20 years now; if it lasts another 20 it'll be around
longer than me!)
