Laureen, you've been on my mind for some reason. How are you feeling? Has
your energy level held up during the rapid weight loss? Are you able to eat
any solid foods yet? And how is your leg problem doing; has that improved
any yet with the weight loss?

|| 410/349/180Laureen,
I'm a hotel manager in a very seasonal market (Williamsburg, VA), and we're
starting to get extremely busy now. The month of March is Spring break for
schools, Easter vacations (this year), and the college of William and Mary
here has parents days and lots of sports events also. In addition to that,
we are near Busch Gardens (a huge nationally known amusement park) and they
opened last week for the season. Having a full hotel is nice, but there's a
catch 22 -- Just coming off winter, which is extremely slow and when we
seasonally lay off over half the hotel staff; many don't return to work when
we recall them, so we're very short on labor. All of my department managers
are doing the jobs of the hourly employees (working the front desk, cleaning
rooms, serving breakfast etc.), so I take up the slack by doing a good part
of *their* regular work in addition to my own. Who says [censored] rolls
downhill? LOL.So I've just plain been working a lot of hours, as many as 16 hours/day --
although I average about 12 right now. Thanks for asking. But after Easter
it will slack off again for a month or so after spring break is over, with
just weekends sold out. That gives us a breather to hire and train new
employees -- if we can find any -- before the real crunch starts in May
with tour groups followed by the summer season. This a particularly tough
market to manage a hotel, because there are far more jobs in Williamsburg
than there are workers. Besides hundreds of hotels and Busch Gardens, this
area has also been known for years for its outlet shopping. All these
businesses compete this time of year for a handful of workers. In a month
or so we begin importing college students for the summer from Eastern
Europe; our comany has had great success with this program. (This is ironic
because we have a large college here, but all those students leave to go
home when we are busiest).Whew! Guess that answers your question!

manager is busy or not working that day the assistant manager (me) helps and
also has to do her own work. I hope they thank you because I would. The low of winter makes everyone go into slow mode so spring break hits and
over time sky rockets. We are the last place people hit before leaving town and for some reason
people are always in a bad mood so I need to know are they in a bad mood
when they get to the hotel?I have 30 people checking animals out with in 2 hours today and its just me
and 2 new people and a 15 year old. (I can't wait :oP)Angie

|| AngieOh yeah, by the time they've been stuck in traffic for hours with a bunch of
screaming kids, or were held up at airports or whatever, they're in a REAL
bad mood by the time they check in to the hotel. It's amazing how much
nicer the people are the second day ( if they are staying more than one
night) after their stress level from traveling has subsided a bit.--
