Sorry to hear that Andy but half the health battle with that is just
knowing you have it. Then you can work out solutions. You'll get lots of dietary info from the Doc. Portion control will be
very important.
I don't feel any different than last year or the year before that. I don't
get it.

Doctor Dee Dee's advice:
Mind your p's&q's for 2 weeks, then re-test.
http://www.diabetesselfmanagement.com/articles/Diabetes_Definitions/Fasting_Plasma_Glucose_Test
Individuals with a fasting plasma glucose level less than 126 mg/dl but
greater than or equal to 110 mg/dl are classified as having impaired fasting
glucose. Though they do not have diabetes, these individuals do not
metabolize glucose normally, and they have an increased risk of developing
high blood pressure, blood lipid disorders, and Type 2 diabetes.

Often, two fasting BGs above 125 are considered for a diagnosis, but
he may have other tests that he ran but did not give you details of.
Anything between 100 and 125 is often diagnosed as "pre-diabetes" or
insulin resistant.
The numbers swing around a bit for diagnosing, with some MDs allowing
a tad more leeway than others, sometimes because of insurance
implications, but at 120, you really need to follow this through with
your physician. Regardless of cut-off numbers, obviously, you are
compromised and will need to make some lifestyle changes and perhaps
take some meds.
You've caught this early. You can control it easily with some
concentration and avoid complications pretty well if you're careful.
Best of luck to you.

You don't want to feel the different that can come with diabetes, Andy, it's
NOT a good thing. Be glad you're not having symptoms and that this was
caught now.

I'll bet you have some of the beginning symptoms and just haven't really
noticed them yet. They creep up so slow and the changes are so gradual you
don't notice them until all of a sudden you blood sugars are back down into
the normal range and you feel better all of a sudden.

Might this have been apparent when I had pancreatitus in 2004-2005?
Malpractice? Or not written on my records? (same thing!?!?)

Bummer!!! What numbers did he give you? What kind, there are different
ones. I know you, you are very bright and you will overcome this
setback with diet and with the support of family and friends. I am
sending you good thoughts and love.

I had pancreatitis 14 years before I became a diabetic. It is pretty
tricky to deal with and unless your treatment was truly inappropriate
then, I'd back off of that. Besides, you'd have been symptomatic
before now.
A lot of physical events/disorders can trigger diabetes or temporary,
although massive, increases in BG levels, but it isn't all that
common. If your pancreas were so severely damaged that it stopped
producing insulin, you'd become a T1, not a T2, though, and by the
gods, you'd have known about it before now.
I'd stop looking for malpractice and start making an appointment with
a certified diabetic nutritionist.
It gets you nowhere looking for blame in this. If anything, your MD
caught it quite early based on your symptoms (and likely your age,
medical history, etc). Your job is to grasp that straw, suck it up and
take control of your body so that you remain in the healthiest state
possible.
There are a lot of us here. I am sure you are not alone being in
denial at diagnosis. You need to get past it and get on with taking
care of yourself.
