  1. Update on little Gypsy the blind and deaf teacup poodle...

In her enclosure/pen, she has finally started peeing all in one spot. ;-)
I put down a heavier layer of newspaper there now with more shavings.
She still does not [censored] in one spot, but that's no big deal as I can
just pick it up with a paper towel a couple of times per day now that
the Giardia infection is finally gone. (took a couple visits to the vet
    to get that under control!).

If I put a small, low litter tray in there with, say, shredded paper and
shavings in there, how can I encourage her to use it? It would make it
easier to clean up after her and I'd like to eventually put a mix of
    litter and shavings into it?

    What do you think?

Maybe try putting it in her "spot" and putting some of the soiled paper
    in there?

    TIA!

Same way as with a cat: leave a little pee and [censored] in the box with the box
in her current [censored]/pee spot, so Gypsy can follow her nose. But the rest of
the enclosure needs to be emptied, scrubed clean, and deodorized with an
enzyme product specifically designed to eliminate pet odors. Then place
fresh newspapers and shavings. Any stray odors may lead Gypsy "astray".
Also, use something with a distinctly different odor for the litter tray, to
guide the dog. Maybe one of the commercial cat litters with a "pleasant"
    odor.

I think that you should never try to teach a pig to sing, because you waste

    Ah, okay.
For pet odors (the floor is painted concrete) I generally use a mix of
white vinegar and Mr. Clean or some other regular disinfectant cleaner.
Vinegar has worked for ages to eliminate/neutralize urine odors, but
then, a dog's nose is probably more sensitive than mine. ;-)

I've heard of a product called "nature's wonder" or some such but for
outdoor areas, I use an Enzymatic soil deoderant called Abate XP. I
might treat with that after mopping then.

No, no, no...no Mr Clean or vinegar or any other concoction. Buy an
enzymatic product that is SPECIFICALLY designed for dog urine and feces
odor. Not "non-domestic canines" or anything else...you DO have a
history...but DOG FECES/URINE ODOR. Do NOT improvise.

No, no, no, no, no. Which part of NO is still unclear. Buy a product, in a
pet store, that is SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO ELIMINATE DOG URINE/FECES ODOR.

Do NOT make me come over there and whack you upside the head with a 2 x 4!

    Did you check the website?
It's an excellent product line and very reasonably priced compared to
the enzymatic treatments available at petsmart...

But, if you think his products are no good, I'll have to experiment with
the more costly ones. It's not like we are talking about a large area...

    Thanks!

    Heheheh!

The other reason I was hesitant about that brand was not just the price.
It was rated poorly on one of the dog lists I used to be on many moons
    ago.

Do you know of a specific brand that really does what the label claims?

Not that I'm all that worried. Getting Gypsy to use a box is more for my
convenience. Her pen will be kept clean no matter what happens. ;-)
I won't make an animal live it it's on waste. It's evil, and gross.

Poor little thing went thru enough after she was neglected abandoned. :-(

    David

Cute. I'll pass that on to dad...

It's like the one I read about the kid that was half Jewish and half
Mexican. He went to his dad one day and asked his dad if he was Jewish
or Mexican. When his dad asked him why, he said, "Well, the kid down the
street wants to sell me his bike. If I'm Jewish, I'll cheat him out of
it. If I'm Mexican, I'll just steal it."

True... I delberately used the term "Scotch" as it refers to someone
    that is a tightwad.

Scotch is also a wonderful drink, on the rocks.....

Mom was Scottish. Her mother was an immigrant.
She fit the bill too! She always was one to save money wherever possible.

Oh, jeez! Two completely different types of cheap, all in one.

Sorry Omelet, but Jewish genes are mitochondrial and aren't passed on
to offspring paternally. Some early genetics studies on that are
    referenced here - http://www.torah.org/qanda/seequanda.php?id=318

But don't despair. A revolutionary procedure suggested by Professor
John Hadov allows the mitochondria to be transferred from a Jewish
father to his non-Jewish children if they would like to become Jewish,
    and who wouldn't!

You too can come by to our lab with your father for mitochondrial
transplant if you'd like to become Jewish (for only a modest nominal
    fee).

Or you can just stop by yourself and we'll do the mitochondrial
transfusion from our fine selection of mitochondria from certified
Jewish donors, such as myself, for just a small additional fee.

Let's just whack off the tip of his penis, and call it good.

Hasn't there been some progress in Jewish gene splicing using stem
    cells from neonate foreskins?

Oh, jeez! Two completely different types of cheap, all in one.

Sorry Omelet, but Jewish genes are mitochondrial and aren't passed on
to offspring paternally. Some early genetics studies on that are

Professor Hadov has perfected a technique whereby all such
chondriosome can be transferred to non-related females, by his
preferred method of personal injection and other proven and
satisfyingly invasive processes, which are guaranteed to re-energise
    those so treated!!

This a generous and selfless offer which should be snapped up by those
    with prepuce to spare.
