Pile/pertex hats

I've got something similar called 'Cirrus AP', although you have to
supply your own chinstrap (it has the loops for one). And yes, it is in
the cupboard as of a couple of weeks ago, since the weather is now too
warm - come back from a 10-15 mile hike with your hair awash.

For summer use (to keep my nose shaded, and hold my earphones on) I have
a nice (free) 'John Deere' baseball cap, in mesh (except for the
peak/front panel).

I use a Lowe Mountain Cap with the addition of a loop of ribbon fixed to the
"ear ring loops". One end of the ribbon has a press stud to hold it around
the string, the other has some velcro so it folds back on itself (thus
giving some adjustability in tension).

Result is very warm if it needs to be with ears well wrapped up, but keeping
the other advantages of the Lowe cap. If the ear flaps are folded up, the
bit of ribbon can be left inside the folded material, and thus not flap
around.

I find the Lowe cap is too warm in the summer, but excellent in winter.

Not Pile/Pertex but IMO better - comfortable next to the skin,
waterproof and breathable.

I have searched the Buffalo home page but could not find it. Can you
advice where to find it?

I do not mind that it is hot, it is for winter use on the really cold
days.

For wearing or washing? 😉

It's useful year round because you can fold the side and back pieces
under when it's warm and in the coldest conditions you would have them
down. When really cold or windy you use the chinstrap, and in extreme
conditions it fits nicely under a hood. I have to say that I rarely
need to use a hood when I have this, though. It is probably not ideal
in really hot conditions, but I've yet to find headwear that is!
However it is light and small enough to carry with you anyway. The
nearest to perfect (for me) in hot dry weather is a buff.

What about the buffalo hood? I have just spent a winter in mid Norway and
choice of hat was
1) Buffalo Hood
2) Lowe Alpine copy
3) Paramo Hat
4) Buff
5) Tilley Winter Hat

I found Buffalo hood too warm when moving, warm when sstopped.
Lowe Alpine copy a shade warm when moving but fine when stopped.
Paramo Hat fine when moving cold when stopped,
Buff summer only.
Tilley Winter Hat: feels a bit conspicuous in Norway but otherwise fine
for walking on windless days.

I dont think it is an accident that there are a lot of Lowe Alpine hats
and their clones here. I lost mine and will replace it.
