  1. Hello everyone,

I'm new to this newsgroup and to triathlons. I have just started my training for my first olympic
triathlon, however I am struggling with finding someplace to swim in the Philadelphia area. I have
contacted on the Master's teams, and they are full with all the other triathletes in Philly. Does
anyone have any suggestions on where I can swim in the Philly area.

    Thanks, Keith

    Not the Delaware.

I'd start out with the yellow pages under "health clubs." Call around and find out who has a pool
with lap swimming times. You may find YMCAs, community centers, and schools with reasonable rates,
or a full-on health club may be the ticket.

Check out www.usms.org for other masters teams in your area.

    Good luck.

  3. Check-out www.swimmersguide.com for pools you can check by Town or County. There are 27-pools listed
    for Philly.

You can often find pools that are under-used at sepcific time, give the pool a call and ask them.
What you really need to focus on are a couple of quality sessions per week with someone to help with
stroke advice and some achievable targets to aim for!

    Good luck! ++Mark.

You might also check back with those "full" masters groups in a month or two. The new year's
resolution crowd starts dropping out by then.

Well if you are willing to head out to the suburbs, we have a masters program at Germantown Academy
in Ft Washington ([email hidden]). About half of the swimmers are triathletes and all three
current coaches are triathletes. Some swimmers drive in from the city and could be willing to
carpool. We currently hold workouts Tues/Thurs/Fri nites 7:30-9pm. Villanova also has a masters
program that trains something like 5:30-7pm Mon-Thur and on Fri morns. Valley Forge masters hold a
Sunday workout each week, normally at Villanova at 9 or 10am. Check out www.dvmasters.org for other
    possibilities.

Aint that the truth. I end up parking in the outlots or on the street a 1/2 mile away from
the "Y" up until about the second week of Feburary. Then its back in the front row!
