After an anxious few days it arrived yesterday as proved
by the yellow slip the delivery driver left in my porch.
As I wasn't in he took it away again to a depot in Goole
as it happens, but I'm mighty relieved that I will get
*something* tomorrow as opposed to being duped, so it's a
bit of a relief. I'll do a review (vs my hybrid) after
I've put some pedals on and ridden it a bit.

Might sell my new Strida folder on ebay now, seeing as I
never ride
it.

I would have gone to Manc to collect it. OK I am 60 miles
closer than you but even so KUH to Manc is not 'that' far.

So would I but.... the auction ended on 6 MAR 04. I don't
get my bonus until 22 MAR 04, so don't have the cash yet. I
therefore paid with a credit card cheque and will pay that
off when I get my salary next week. BTW sorry to hear of
your P45 and hope you get fixed up soon :-)

If you pay by credit card cheque, do you get the same
protection you get if you pay by credit card i.e. the
protection under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 (???? is that
right, or is it the credit protection act?).

In basic terms, purchases made by credit CARD are actually
made by the credit card company: Not by you. So if goods
fail to arrive, the credit card company lose out instead of
you (you can claim your money back from them).

But I'm not sure if this applies to credit card cheque
purchases.

Was reading an article about this recently.IIRC the
protection does not apply to credit card cheques,also
interest is charged from the date the cheque is cashed not
the usual 56 or so days ( depending on statement date of
course ) or whatever as with a card.

Sam is right - there is no protection when you use a credit
card cheque.

Never doing this again after paying £400 for a Sunn GP
framed project bike from a guy in Hull ('won' on e-bay),
full suss, disc brakes etc. described by the seller as a
great all rounder. Gave it to my son for his 18th. He
upgraded a few components over the course of a few
months....couple of decent rides into the life of this bike
and the rear swing arm snapped. Closer inspection revealed
it to have been welded...it was aluminium..'nuff
said!!...just glad it didn't snap on him when we were hair
ars*ng down Snowdon. Wasted £400 and what's worse, gave my
son something for his 18th that might've killed
him...should've just gone out and bought him 400 quids worth
of smack!! Dave.

Thanks ;-)...no, it was a project bike and as I said, sold
as good all rounder. Took my son to pick it up and give it
the once over prior to handing over the spondoolies. I
suppose there's a chance the guy who sold it to us wasn't
aware of the welding as he may have picked the frame up for
a song as part of the project. In addition to this some of
the nuts and bolts were a bit loose. I'd advised my son to
check it all out before we went on our first outing at
Gwydyr in N.Wales. He'd assured me he had but half way
round, when we stopped for a snack, he spotted the bolt
holding the swing arm on was half way out, again, very
lucky..... As I say, never again. Hope yours is everything
you were hoping for, Dave.
p.s. - he's now got himself a Specialised Big Hit Down Hill
and transferred all the components onto that, so he's a
very happy bunny now 8-D
