Perth group rides

Go here: wa.cycling.org.aufset events.htmOpen ↗ and click on "Group Rides" at the top of the page - this should help you out, I ride with the Runner's World crew on Saturday mornings - fairly mixed abilities so you'd find someone at a level which suits you.

It's also a good social group, but it's not too regimented if you are more after a fixed loop with deidicated sprint points/re-groups etc...

Try contacting any of the bike shops in your area. Both Fleet Cycles and Bike Force (both in Freo) may be options for you. I live NOR, so ride with Cyclemania group.

Attadale Cycles and Churchill Cycles may run group rides too and they'd be fairly close....

Just about every bike shop has a group ride or two. If there's a problem with Perth group rides, is that there are too many !.

Having said that, I haven't been able to find a evening ride (starting 6ish). Anyone know of any? I'm close to the CBD.

awesome, thanks heaps..i will follow them up.. i give fleet and TBE willeton a fair bit of buisness so i will check them out. Ledomes, on my searches i havn't found any that time either as it would be ideal for me also.

If your after a Saturday ride in your area you cant go past Bike Force in Freo. They have several groups for riders of different abilities and the people are really friendly. Fleet cycles used to have a pretty good ride a couple of years ago but most of the good riders have left and according to their shop window they have cancelled all summer rides. When you get a bit faster and more confident you can always do the papas ride from Freo

last i seen, bike force freo charged $10 for there group rides, not that it matters i just found it humerous. Ive been put on night shift so it going to be to hard getting up early as im going to bed at the time most group rides start. with time being an issue the only option for training i have at the moment is riding to work. that will save me $70 a week. YEH BABY!!!!

10$ to ride with a group you have to be kidding, what else would you expect from bike force though.

Agree. Also -I'm no lawyer- but, I'm pretty sure charging for the ride makes them liable in case of any accidents...not a smart move at all IMHO.

Wow, thanks for that link. I'm moving to Fremantle, from Sydney in the next couple of months, and I was a bit worried that there wouldn't be many organised bunch rides, seems I was worying for nothing.

Slam Dunk, goodluck with the move. My wife and did it last year also from sydney.

The riding scene here is very healthy, except for racing. Anything that is via a club is normally [censored]. But if you are over 35 I sugest you join West coast masters. Very good organised racing all year.

having said that, I have ridden with one BForce group, but sadly I refuse to enter their stores.
Why? they look at customers the same way I look at an attractive woman in a nice dress as she enters a pub...with hunger and lust 😠

I think you will find that the $10 is for the spin classes they hold in the morning not the actually group road rides.

As for Bike Force stores in general, yeah I agree they arent that friendly to go into, but in my experience TBE is the same, but there are exceptions and thats based on the staff. Bike Force in Freo have great staff, always friendly and are more interesting in helping you find what you want than selling you the most expensive thing. TBE in Nedlands used to be like that too, but alas they have gone the way of their other stores. Actually come to think of it lots of the bigger bike stores in Perth have become like car showrooms, with big fancy bikes and staff they know [censored] all about bikes. I suppose thats with the ones that are still truely a LBS, Bike Force Freo, Riders Choice, Churchills, etc

Thanks for the info, I am over 35 (just), I guess I'll have to look at racing when I get there. As long as there is some racing I'll be happy.

I can not speak for the masters but as far as the racing at Wangara and at Kardinya goes, they seem to me, to be organised well enough. A large number of the riders tend to share it between the two clubs on alternate Sunday's. This week is up at Wangara, last week was at Kardinya. Large numbers turn up for the A + B grades. Wangara has a junior race on before hand which is good to watch as well.😉

West Coast masters run really good races particularly in the road season. Their calendar is set out and followed. In a grade the races at the start of the season start at 55 - 60 km and progresivly get longer until they are at around 85 km give or take. The venues are generally close enough to ride to if you wish and the atmosphere is good, friendly.

As for the races organised via the clubs affiliated with the WACF they are ok as well particularly in the summer where the crits are well patronised and safley run. In the winter the road callendar can be a bit sketchy appart from a few good early season road races. After the Kalgoorlie weekend it can be a bit hit and miss. Also the clubs dont tend to run club road races any more.

It is nice being of masters age as it gives you the choice and you can usually find a race to do. The only downside is the double licence costs.
