Personalised sleeping bag ?

Well it will have the same down (if that is really what they do - have
you asked Rab?) but it will have less material & stitching so it will be
a little bit lighter.

A standard bag will be easier to sell if you ever want to or lend to
others if necessary.

The space at the bottom of the bag could take a nice big hot water bottle
for cold winter camping - or for keeping a four legged friend warm!

The space at the end of the bag will be space where convection currents
can get going, which will reduce the effectiveness of the bag. It will
also have a larger surface area to radiate heat from, so you should be
more thermally efficient with the smaller bag.

Regarding Dominic's suggestion of the PHD bag, it's the case that I'd
trust either of Rab and PHD to make a fine bag from a technical
standpoint, but the best way IMHO to choose one from the other is lie in
them and assess comfort. Different bags are different shapes and suit
people's sleeping positions better and worse, and one may offer you a
potentially better night's sleep than the other because of this. If you
can't tell the difference that way, /then/ go to the paper specs and
cost for final choice.

No, I have an ME Skyine and an ME Annapurna as my main bags and several
others in reserve.

Pete Hutchinson used to be one of the main people at ME and has a great
reputation for excellent gear. PHD have not been around as long as Rab
but are based about a mile from me and Rab are over the moors in
Sheffield.

i use the space at the bottom to shuck my clothes down there when I
get in and strip em off. some go as pillow the rest get shunted
down to my footbox.

I feel your pain, but, you won't regret it. I got the 600 in the end. I
would recommend a liner though, nothing specific, just a wee bit of
protection from scuffs and dirt, easier to wash or replace.

I was tempted by the endurance version, because this "wasted" space is
covered by a blanket, then, a wet, but snug, GSD : )

Tower Ridge used to have a shop in Scone but they've shut that down to
just trade online now. But they did have a stall at the DMFF today, and
I was having a chat with them, and picked up a Rab brochure, where I
learned that...

shorter than standard in any case, and will presumably be slightly
differently shaped too. So if you fancy a Q400, maybe wait for that to
be on the shelves.
