Is it time to rethink the traditional periodization model for road racing, which typically consists of a base phase, build phase, and peak phase, and instead adopt a more flexible and adaptive approach that prioritizes the athletes individual needs and responds to their unique physiological and psychological responses to training, or are we simply stuck in a dogmatic adherence to a model that may not be optimal for every athlete.

    Does the traditional periodization model, which often relies on a linear progression of intensity and volume, actually hinder an athletes ability to adapt and improve by not allowing for adequate recovery time, or by forcing them into a predetermined structure that doesnt account for individual variability in response to training.

    Can we truly say that the traditional periodization model is still the most effective way to prepare athletes for competition, or are we just perpetuating a model that has been passed down through the years without critically evaluating its efficacy in the modern era of sports science and training methodologies.
