I am posing a question. What will bring the greatest performance boost, a set of aero wheels, or a powertap. I have decided to indefinitely postpone all other projects.
For about the same price, a decent aero carbon wheelset or a powertap hub can be purchased, but which will bring the greatest performance boost. If I race people on Zipp 404s (just an example) with
This is a cool question. I think it really depends on your MOTOR. Powertaps will do nothing more than monitor your training. It will not make you faster if you don't know how to use the data correctly. As for a set of Aero Wheels, I think the benefit will be more psychological than physical. I train with a Powertap. I have been taught what to look for when I download the data. This makes all the difference in the world. I say go for the Powertap because in the long run you will become a more efficient racer by knowing your physical limits and capabilities when you need to stomp on the gas. 🙄

Does it help with learning to pace yourself, because that is probably my weakest area. Speed and heartrate vary too much so I can't properly pace myself to achieve the best result in, say, an uphill TT.
Monitoring and tracking will improve you in the long run. IMO, the aero will give you a new feel, but that is it. I'm not sold on the tech aspect on the aero wheels, by the way...😉
I would go with the Powertap, for sure. When it comes to actually getting results, science beats bling any day of the week.
It would be a shame to break apart that nice DT wheelset of yours, though; given that rims and spokes are relatively cheap (in comparison to the sort of hubs we're talking about here, be it 240s or PowerTaps), you could build a separate rear wheel with the PowerTap hub, that you can swap in and out with.

Break up the DTs 😠 Don't suggest such a thing. It would be a new wheel with an RR1.1 rim and competition spokes.
