Performance Bicycle, Caveat Emptor!, privacy abuse

Strange, I've ordered plenty from them, and get zero spam. (I don't
consider a standard Sales Flyer spam; after all, I am a cyclist who's shown
interest in purchasing cycling items from cycling businesses.)

I've not gotten one bit of spam from Performance.

i've gotten truckloads but since my ISP's spamfilter blocks it all i've
never bothered to try and get off the list. they certainly do send email,
tho.

Interesting. I wish my ISP had a spamfilter of some kind. I'd much rather
get spam from performance (might be useful to me!) than from the viagra
pushers....

Frankly, I don't see what the problem is. I've been a web and mail-order
customer of Performance on and off for probably 15 or more years (since
before they had a web site as a matter of fact.) When I used to live in
Japan, they were one of the few American bicycle shops that was willing to
ship me parts without gouging me on shipping and handling.

I don't get any 'spam' from Performance. Matter of fact, I don't recall
getting any advertising email from them at all, just the paper catalogs in
the mail a few times a year. I don't see any problem whatsoever doing
business with Performance (and Supergo, who they now own.) They've always
treated me very well.

(Who's still curious as to why people complain bitterly about email spam,
yet are perfectly happy to receive and throw away junk snail-mail daily,
which is far more work than deleting a few rogue emails.)

The policy goes on to say they may use and share your postal address as
well.

This is an ANTI-PRIVACY policy if I've ever seen one. Basically, they
can do whatever they want with your personal information, including
email, phone number, and postal address.

I've ordered from them for a couple years now and don't recall any spam or

Exactly. I don't know what the OP meant by "spam", but sales flyers are not
spam. If that's what he means, then I guess I do get spam. But it's good
spam, as opposed to Cialis and free IPod spams.

I get maybe one or two Emails from them a week, not at a level where I
would consider it "spam". I would like to think that if I ask them,
they would stop sending even that much, but I haven't been bothered
enough to try.

This is legitimate marketing. Spam [in email] is illegitimate email
with illegitimate headers usually selling illegitimate products.

After having ordered from Performance, Nashbar, and Supergo (and
maybe somewhere else), I continued to never receive ANY email from
any of them. I proceeded to put my email address in their "please
send me email" requests on their web pages, and continued not to get
any. I had to do it a second time before I got any.

Of course, now that I get those emails, I don't give them much
attention, but I _could_... <G>
