Most of our bikes (all but one road bike and the two folders) use the
Shimanos that have a platform on one side and clip on the other (IIRC
they were 323s, but not positive and they probably have changed
anyway). For the reasons you gave, they seemed to make more sense. I
gambled on a clip and platform combination once, and the pressure it
took to clip was noticeable throughout the ride - like you were
pushing through the platform to get to the clip (and they were big,
ugly red things too). Never again.
