  1. Q1: Are VP, Exus and Wellgo pedals any good?

Q2: Is one brand better than the other?

Since coming from a BMX and MTB to road, I've always used SPD. But recently I've found them slippery to get into on wet days on the road. So, I'll probably go for a wide platform for the road bike, say Look type or SPD-SL.

Any suggestions about pedal selection appreciated.

I had some Wellgo SPD clones that worked just like SPDs. They weren't particularly slippery. I've changed them to SPD-SLs for the wider platform though.

I've had a set of VP SPD clones on my hybrid and then MTB for about 7 years now
and they are still going strong.

They get a fair flogging on the MTB as well and have been excellent.

Yeah, my VP bright red platform SPDs have been working well since 98. You
can see where I've misjudged the kerb clearance and put the pedal on the
    kerb, though!

  5. I had a set of Wellgo pedals, Look ripoffs. Half of the plastic/fibreglass bit at the back snapped clean off when I was pulling upwards. Let me point out that I'm not a powerful rider; so yeah, wouldn't recommend the Wellgos. 🙂

    Second on that.

I've got some, and occasionally when I'm pulling hard up a hill, they
just slip out. WTF is with that? My miche ones never do that.

Confession: haven't trained for a month. My life is so poo right now.

My learsport came with wellgo pedals. I was prone to pulling out of them
when taking off from lights, even when they were set to maximum release
tension. They wqould be very poor in a sprint/ I went back to my look
    PP136's.

hey you're the only person (other than me and the guy who sold one to
me) that I know that rides a learsport. (my trg/commuting bike)

Yep, same... the one time they did decide to grip, they snapped. Don't get the Wellgo's, y'hear? 😉

What ARE you doing? Do you have exams on or
    something?

My SPD's are getting a little more worn out.. it's
very easy to unclip with a twist of the foot but when
pedaling normally they don't see to want to release.

Nah I'm trying to get my confirmation done. No I'm not Catholic, I'm a
provisional PhD student and I want to be a real PhD student. But my lit
review is taking SOOOO long and I have assignments to mark and army
exercises to go on (need the money and like living in the bush) and I
just split with my partner and have been trying to move out at the same
time as all of that... the only running I've been doing is for my other
job (pace leader) and no cycling or swimming at all. Man that sucks.

Sounds like you have a lot on your plate.. in fact, it sounds
like you burst through the door at Smorgy's as soon as
they opened and made a concious effort to hit 'em hard
and get your money's worth. No spuds, no rice, only meat
and desserts... and lots of 'em. Load, eat, load, eat...
    repeat.
Only "leaving" when the staff drag you away from the
chocolate mousse bowl while you howl about not being
finished, spitting jelly bits over the floor in the process.

    "Let me back in!"
"There's still chicken meat on that plate!! Let me IN!!!"

Will not respond to mesg as overloaded with tag lines

    T
    - is responding to taglines instead
    - sure people don't like my signing "T"
    - figures Smorgy's is like a quality version of Sizzler
    - probably went to sizzler instead which explains why everything is
    STILL ON THE PLATE
    - is doing a phd in motor control, modelling how the brain generates
commands to send to the body and what form those commands take, and how
    the muscles respond
    - leads a run group at a certain pace, last night it was the 4km group
at a pace of 7 min/km so didn't even break a sweat and didn't shut up
the entire time I was running, actually was really proud because last
member of group got back in 27 minutes instead of 28

Visions of a running paceline... Very strange.

Fantastic quote from a fellow bike racer, while watching a bunch of triathletes go past at Centennial Park during a time trial: "They think they're so good, just 'cos they can swim."

    Regards,

    Suzy

PS: Best of luck with the post hole diggers.

    although certainly not on-topic ;-)

What about "Tamyka" or "TB" or "TeeBee"?

If "quality" was sarcastic then, yes, Smorgy's is a
    "quality" version of Sizzler.
