Any shoes that are described as "SPD compatible" if you want to stick with
the same pedals or same type of pedals. That's just S.P.D. with no extra
letters afterwards.

SPD-SL is not SPD, nor is SPD-R. Forget that the first three letters of the
names are the same!

Note that "Look compatible" shoes also take SPD-SL cleats and vice versa as
they share the same 3-hole pattern. Same sort of thing with SPD and cleats
from other makes that use SPD's 2-hole pattern.

But don't be in a rush to get new SPD shoes if you might want to try SPD-SL
or Look or similar roadie pedals in the near future. Very few shoes now
have both sets of holes (ie. one for SPD, one for SPD-SL/Look).

I suggest making new shoes/pedals a low priority if you're reasonably
comfortable with what you have already. Get the saddle bag and all that
sorted first.

The pedals you have bought use SPD compatiable cleats so you need shoes
that are advertised as SPD compatiable, just plain old SPD not SPD-SL
or SPD-R. If you buy mountain bike shoes they will have a tread with a
recess to accomodate the cleat making it easier to walk when not on the
bike.

I use Shimano M072 shoes and use them on my Road bike as well as my
MTB. Note that Shimano shoes tend to be a narrow fit and slightly small
for their size so visit your local bike shop (LBS)

Or go to big impersonal bke shop in central London, and get them to get all teh shoes out your interested in, find thse ones that you like and fit, then say you'll think about it, and order on-line :-) (well after elyob's problems I really have no issue in doing that :-) (I wouldn't do that to my LBS btw)

Online dealers let you return shoes if they don't fit. I've bought four
pairs of cycling shoes online. Two didn't fit so I got replacements. Still
saved money overall.
