Im 5090, I wanted a 10am start but got a 9am start bah!

I'm 5699. 9.40 start. Looking forward to doing it in the right
direction and without a kid on the back for a change. Weather might be
a bit dodgy, mind.

BBC Website has been jumping between a big black cloud with sun and 2 rain
drops to a white fluffy cloud for Sunday since I started watching it last
night. It currently says it wil lbe peeing down in Glasgow but nice and
sunny in Lanarkshire.

Unfortunately experiments earlier today demonstrated that I can't fit my
Berghaus "waterproof" into my camelback with the bladder full.

Can anyone who has done the event before tell me how well the route is
signposted in the towns. My navigational Skills are normally put to test
whne sitting in the passenger seat on road rallies, not a rock sold seat on
two wheels.

Did it in 2004 ... then the following year someone had a bright idea of
doing it in reverse???, the route was reasonbly sign posted, more or less
just went with the crowd cyclist in front of you, cyclist at the back ....

You can refill the water bottle at the refreshment stops ....... I'm leaving
the camelback at home this year ..

Can anybody tel me if the Avonbridge stop is a donation stop?

Ah! First time, then? Don't worry, signposting's pretty good, I'd
say, on past experience; I've done it three times and never gone the
wrong way; they have direction indicators on all roundabouts and
anywhere where you actually need to change direction as opposed to just
going straight ahead. Keep your eyes peeled and your wits about you
and you'll be fine. Absolutely no problem getting out of Glasgow, it's
a straight run. Airdrie etc can be a bit confusing but with two and a
half thousand people taking part I'm sure there'll be somebody to
follow. Getting into Edinburgh is mostly cyclepaths from Cramond,
little hassle there either.

If it's any help, on the Berg-housing, I've got a throw over saddlebag
style set of panniers I won't be using as I do it with just a barbag
usually; shout back if you want to borrow them, not a problem. But
it's only 47 miles, you shouldn't need a full camelbak unless it's
roastin' - which we know it isn't going to be - and there are 4 rest
stops with free water along the way. Take plenty of cash for the fine
ladies of Avonbridge Church and their top home baking, by the way.

If everyone is following the person in front, theres a lot of responsibility
on the person at the front :-p

I have a "medium" saddle bag affixed to my saddle, I could probably fit the
jacket and Hi-Vis in it at a very tight squeze, but at the expense of not
carrying a spare tube, tyre levers, multitool, mobile phone etc.
Don't think I have anyway of attaching paniers but cheers for the offer
anyway.

Last time I hit 76Km I had drunk about 3.5 liters of Liquid relying on a
shop halfway along the route for the replenishment of the bottles, though
the temp was over 20 deg

If I don't take the camel back then I could carry my hiking daybag, though
it results in a soggy back, but if its raining that won't matter (but then
it will be empty all the way) and why am I worrying about a soggy back when
my saddle isn't designed for comfort.

As an ex road rally navigator and map fan, I printed off a full set of maps
for last years run. I hardly looked at them and won't be bothering this
year, except perhaps for Edinburgh which is always a mystery to me...

More to the point, looks like there will be a mild tailwind rather than last

If it's like last year, everyone arrives when they arrive, gets into long
queus to register, then sets off in batches every 5 mins or so when they're
ready to go. Allocated start times didn't seem to mean much.

reckoned I stoped for about 20 min at Avonbridge, Kirkliston (missed

3hrs and 20min... stopped @ Avonbirdge, drumpellier .. to soon and
linlithgow to soon after ... note in training manual ... there is no
nutritional value in two scones and a slab of shortbread whatsoever... but
boy was it delish .... and that hill just outside Aaaarrrrghhhh. Bad
accident on route 1, just passed the millenium.. two riders... blue light
services on the ground with them, looked like one of them came of worse....

On the whole a very good organinsed event ... though the wait in the queue
at the finish tent could .. well not so long

A big well done to all those who participated and the funds they raised

Looking forward to 2007 .......
