I've been trapped at my client's place out of town for a while, and there's no gym nearby. I brought a couple pair of dumbbells, but I can't figure out how to keep working my pecs without a bench. I've just been doing pushups, which are not optimum.
Any ideas? Thanks

Flys while lying down on a pair of stools? Pushups with bags of sand in a knapsack?

Try dips on a solid table. Put your hands on the edge an face away, and put your feet on a chair.
Use the dumbells for flyes/pullovers while you lie on the floor.

Take a pair (or more) of plates, hold them together from the sides strictly with side pressure using mostly the base of your palms, IOW, don't get under or over them. Now do curls up and down. I think you'll feel those pecs working. This is called a "crush curl." It seems to be most popular with a kettlebell but you can do it with plates, and if you drop the weights it can be dangerous to your toes, so don't use much weight and be prepared to get out of the way. You won't need much weight on this.

I might add, that the amount of weight in this particular exercise dont matter that much when it comes to pectoral development. I have strong suspiciouns to believe that 25 pound plate will give the same effect as 45. For the pecs, not the biceps, of course...
Brian, Do yo have a pair of chairs ? Try Atlas pushups with hand on each seat. eventually you can raise your feet to a third chair. Then turn the chairs around and do dips. Then pushups with your feet raised and your hands on your the handle of your dumbbells for added stretch. Of you can do chins ether with a removable bar or by putting a towel under a sturdy door you can do push pull super sets. Five sets of twenty -five each and your upper body will scream. Be sure to warm up and stretch afterward. Godspeed, Gabriel

I lost over 100 lbs in the first week of using kettlebells. I lost 60 lbs the second week and the third week I died. We used the electric, plug-in model from dragondoor. What do you use?

You can do flyes, just not with a full ROM. Work up to one handed pushups.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor: http://www.abmdr.org.au/ http://www.marrow.org/
