Peachtree Road Race

I feel your pain, missing a great event. I've only run it
three times: twice from Group 1A, and once from way in
back. It's a real blast starting up front. You can almost
lift your feet and get carried along. There is no wind
resistance. It's also cool to watch the wheel chair
racers start. I was impressed that the chairs didn't all
look the same, that the technology was still growing in
an exciting way.

I missed the mug both times, the second time after telling
EVERYONE that I would be bringing one back. My sister had a
"Mug of Shame" custom made for me, sweet girl.

I ran 1985-1991, 1993-1997, and 2000-2003. 16 total. I'm 34,

Even though I've lived in Atlanta for 15 years, I've never
run the Peachtree. All my friends and co-workers just assume
I'm running it. It's funny how my running routes get a
little more crowded during June. Then after the 4th, I'm on
my own again. A lot of people do no training for this race.
They simply run/walk it to get *THE* t-shirt.

deal this race
is. World's largest 10K- 55,000 runners. $83,100.00
total prize money, $15,000.00 for first place.
Coverage by every TV station in Atlanta. Broadcast
live by one TV station.

I've had the same experience with the sudden crowding of the
running routes. Mine starts in mid-March, when the PRR
applications come out in the newspaper.

There are a lot of people who walk/run the race. With 55,000
people, the course is very congested in the back. But yes,
some people don't put a lot of effort into training.

I had a great day. I came in #531, for a time of 41:26.
Now I will finally get the coveted Niketown mug (for the
top 1000 finishers). Not as muggy as usual, 71* and a
nice breeze.

I felt real good this year. All those 4:45AM runs must have
paid off. I found out earlier this year, I have a mild case
of Asthma. So the medication probably helped me too.
