Patterdale Parking

My digital Harvey shows parking almost exactly there, although there's
actually a phone box symbol at that point.

I'm struggling to remember a car park actually at that point, and I
can't think where it would be because istm it's just a pretty narrow
strip with a few shops on the left, the pub on the right and then the
hotel on the left (going north(ish), that is). Having said that,
there's certainly parking at the hotel and at the youth hostel (a
short distance south). I'm not sure how fiercely they guard it...
Maybe there's also a car park behind the pub, or something. I've
generally been on foot there, so I've not had to seek one out.

Are you sure that's the right grid ref? Right by the bridge?
My map has a parking symbol at NY395159, opposite the hotel, and I can
confirm that there was definitely a car park there about 6 years ago
when I last used it!

That's opposite the White Lion pub, next to the little general shop? There
is a car park (and Public Conveniences) there, though I can't remember if
the car park is for pub patrons only. Also space for a couple of cars at
the roadside on the outside of the bend.

Well, as near as dam it. I actually placed my mouse over what I though was
the same OS location on my Harvey Anquet Map, near the bend in the road.
Bit lazy as at the time I had left the OS map in the sitting room (down

I have used a pub car park along the road, on the western side of the road
from the pub, but I think it was the pub's car park. I have also stopped
for a drink in (I think) the Patterdale Hotel which I think is pretty close
to the marked car park.

The thing is I am planning a selection of walks for our week in the Lakes
after the Great Gable service. One is out over Beda Fell via Bordale Hause,
returning over Place Fell. I am after somewhere to park to start the walk,
other than parking in Glenridding.

Never thought of the YHA, although we used to be a members, but not sure if
it lapsed. Stayed at Honsiter YHA for the Great Gable service last year,
the last time I looked at my card. Must check it.

There's very little car park space room at the Patterdale YHA - so I'd steer
clear - very easy to get blocked in ;-)

Agree ...... but I don't have the parking symbol. I have the phone and YHA
symbol either side of the road leading off east from the main Patterdale
road, to the right of Mill Moss.

My version is about a year old, although I have updated with all the latest
versions of software from the Anquet website.

I remember there being a car park for the pub with a sign saying patrons
only and another small carpark for general use down off the road a bit
behind a wall on the right hand side going to Glenridding which you don't
notice when driving along.

i was there a few months ago. theres not much in the way of parking space at
patterdale but the one just above the beck (on pw's map above) at
glenridding is a fair size and its only a few mins walk down the road from
patterdale

Do you mean Glenridding ??? the phone box you refer to is the famous one
with the Hartsop sign at the side ??? well the car park a few hundred yards
back which stands back in the trees is capable of @ least 40 cars nowhere
near the grid references being banded about they must be yards out God Bless

Yes - that's the spot. I've parked there a number of times. The carpark
behind the wall next to the shop is for patrons only, but there is space for
at least 6 cars in what is effectively a lay-by on the outside of the wall.
At this time of year you shouldn't have much trouble getting in there, I'd
have thought.

According to my GPS the car park is at NY 396159 and according to my
web site the fee was UKP 1.00 for the day the last time I was there.

It is indeed on the opposite side of the road from the Patterdale
Hotel but the entrance is to the north of the buildings located
there. IIRC there is room for about 30 cars.

, the book I got the parking reference from says

"Car park ( fee charged ) on the opposite side of the A592 to the Patterdale
Hotel"

It gives a grid reference of NY 396 159

There was room for a dozen or so cars if I remember right . Hope this helps

Hartsop, but the location I am interested, at the Grid given, is about 1
mile south of Glenridding.

I think that car parking is a bit of rough land and it was £2 to park all
day. I think!

There is (was) parking at the road leading to Grisdale 600 metres north of
that car park. It's limited to approx 8 cars, so get there early if there's
no restrictions been set up recently.
