It doesn't make sense for any of the designated sprinters to "save energy" in the prologue - a
sprint victory in the next few stages could put any of them in yellow.

The amount of exposure they get from wearing yellow will garner an order of magnitude more publicity
than any other result they get for the entire year. I agree with Carl - McEwen is very likely to be
excuse making.

On Belgian television, he said he wasn't really interested in the yellow jersey. He went up the
first "climb" of the prologue very slowly, to have a very good second part BTW. Also note that he
finished 101th, before Zabel (112th) and Petacchi (125th).

Nick, The year that Pantani won (1998), he finished like 80th or something in the prologue. I
realize they are two different riders, but the point is that prologue really isn't that good of an
indication of who is going to do well on the final GC.

I doubt he's not really interested in wearing the jersey for a couple of days. What do you think
it's worth in UCI points, team bonuses, and kermesse start money, as well as personal prestige?

Why try to make a very good second part if you don't put in a decent effort on the first part?

Furthermore, given all the training these riders do, there is absolutely no reason that a single 9
minute time trial effort should affect his performance in the next few days.

hours (and other teams as riding as much as two hours more) on Friday. Do you think Robbie trained
with them or sat around and ate frites while watching Belgium vs. USA at Wimbledon to save energy
for the first few stages? Most riders probably rode three hours in addition to the prologue today.

Not just exposure, but real live UCI points and cash.

criticizing him and his bad shpe and lack of profesionalism... But then it was his turn in the

We do, but he's about 48 years old, has a tough time making it over the hills, and prefers
the keirin.

The footage I saw so him rolling away from the start fairly slowly. His comment about Petacchi was
