What rotten luck. Are you still going to replace the original Tektros with something better?

Sheldon Brown has Shimano A-550 47-57mm Dual-Pivot calipers for US$39.95 each plus freight. Would work out to a bit over A$100 for the exercise.

I bought some from him for a 27" bike I was doing up and they are nice brakes.

(Of course, 57mm reach is the original 'standard' reach which is now no longer standard.)

If you have the Tektros, there's no reason to replace them. 105s are
no better functionally, though they are a bit prettier.

The longer clearance is actually a Very Good Thing, because someday you
may want to ride the bike on rougher roads and may welcome the ability
to run wider tyres. In the meantime, it doesn't make your bike a whit
slower.

The tektros are very flexy though (stop, pull the levers and watch as
the upper arm moves up and the pads stay in the same spot,
consequently, braking power on the OCR3 does suffer quite a large
amount compared to other road bikes (for instance, I can't do an endo
on the OCR3 no matter how hard I try for [censored] and giggles)), are not
105s better than this?

I was hoping that there would be less flex in the caliper. At present I get
to about one third lever travel before the pads contact the rim and the
remaining two thirds of travel are taken up with making the caliper flex.
once the lever reaches the bar tape, I'm squeezing rather hard and not
getting anywhere near either locking the front wheel or lifting the rear.
