Martlew just said that the wearing of 'seat helmets' should
be made compulsory. Must be thinking about recumbents!

Damn. Don't have Real Player here. I presume we can expect
updates from yourself and others.

Great quote from Martlew
'Support for the bill from ... and Halfords ' ( wonder why?)
but then followed by 'Opponents to the bill include the cycle traders association who are only interested in selling bicycles'! After of course saying that cycling usage won;t drop!
Don't agree with his comments that all CTC members are 'well adjusted':-)

now it's "don't worry cos it won't be enforced" common sense
will prevail

Just been asked by another member that if he allows his
daughter to cycle in the park without wearing a helemt,
will he be committing a criminal offence. Martlew says
"Yes" but goes on to say common sense will prevail and he
won't get done. So I do have to ask, why on earth make it a
criminal offence?

Just mentioned pavement cycling, and cyclists in Whitehall
who wear helmets but don't have lights.
CTC... will do everything they can... and actively campaing
against Govt. introducing legislation
National Cycling Strategy give a distorted view of Martlew's

So far pretty bad. From the comments so far from the floor,
no-one there seems to be wanting to do other than support
it. Looks like he is going to win his vote and we have
failed to get the message across to our MPs.

Martlew thinks the leadership of the CTC needs to be
changed.

CTC sure most members are "normal well-adjusted souls" ...
followed by an interruption for someone to say she was/in in
CTC and is "normal"
Martlew says CTC "Lunatics in Lycra" Interruped by another
to point out people can be pro-helmet but not pro-compulsion
- enforceability
Martlew - CTC anti-helmet to extreme extent
Martlew "suggest to CTC it should change policy and change
its leadership"
Martlew - "professional cyclists have to wear helmets" Cycle
training for children - helmet wearing compulsory - make
cycle safer, more people will do
it.
