Well, I don't know for sure. I only know that when I was planning a hike through Algonquin, the
guide book said to the effect that thou shalt not bring *non-burnable* utensils. So I'm guessing
that the park rangers are sick of finding knives and forks discarded (or accidentally dropped etc.)
at camp sites and having to carry them out. And they want to be able to burn them on site if they
need to clean up a camp after some slobs. Socks

And since when have the bears respected any hunting season ? Or even paid in full for their
licenses to hunt ?

Yes, the bears get angry when you leave spoons & such. They prefer chopsticks.

humans????? How about a .> "holiday" for wildlife? . .They are Mikey. There are areas in Banff, just
as an example, .that are routinely closed because there are bears in there .doing what bears do, and
the rangers don't want them disturbed. .Or elk or moose or deer. And it's not that the rangers are
.afraid people will get eaten. They are afraid the bears will .be disturbed from their mating or
eating or den selection etc. .I recall one area in particular that has been closed entirely .for
more than two years. It's quite possible there are two .year old bears in there that have never seen
a human, at least .not from closer than a half mile or so.

Good.

.And there are also areas that are routinely extremely limited .in access, or only available during
certain months, or on .certain conditions. For example, there are areas in Algonquin .that are for
paddlers only, you are not allowed to burn wood .even if it is already laying dead on the ground,
you can't .take in metal eating utensils, etc. And it is the usual rule .in most backcountry
provincial and federal parks in Canada .that you are not allowed off the trail because of the damage
.and disruption it would cause.

Oh, yeah. I'm sure that mountain bikers never disobey THAT one!

You wouldn't know what to do with yourself! That's why you are still responding to me, long after
others have given up

.MV is just around for fun. Few take him seriously; I for one would .*never* imagine that he
represents any serious faction of the .environmental movement. . .He is much like the wacko baptists
we have here - standing on street .corners screaming at people that they will go to hell - for being

Don't include yourself, *****. Mountain bikers are out for thrills. Period. They don't give a damn
about wildlife or nature, except to build trails through it.

rec.bicycles.off-road with your trolling until it got .moderated. Thanks for your consideration

Don't blame ME. I voted against moderation. :)

.> I haven't heard .> a peep out of you in the 9 years I have been working on this issue. . .Mostly
because I don't often respond to trolls. It's bad form, but I .see you actually do respond to people
now. I remember when you used to .just dump your lopsided point of view and leave it. I probably
have .responded years ago, if I look back through rec.bicycles.off-road I can .probably find a few.

Prove me wrong. (If you COULD, you WOULD have already.)

Big Basin Redwoods hearings? What did you say? . .Haven't been to it, however Big Basin is a

See what I mean? You do NOTHING even to protect places you like.

We stick to the fire roads and often end up .packing out bottles and cans careless people leave
behind. . .If you actually believe mountain bikes damage the environment, you .should be livid
about what horses and wild pigs do.

Irrelevant. They don't ride mountain bikes.

You should be out .trapping pigs (not letting them go as some blockheaded UCSC student did .a year
ago) and getting trails closed to horses, whose hooves litteraly .chew up fireroads and trails,
setting them up for erosion, which, ta-da, .requires ploughing, etc. to repair them, futher
artificially .distributing soil. . .Honestly, if someone wishes to carpool 600 miles, that's a
responsible .step right there. Maybe they have a hybrid, car and you don't know it, .but with your
typical extreme flair, you assume they're going down the .road in a Hummer or worse. .
