I'm thinking of purchasing a Panini Sandwich Grill. I'd like to buy
one which can cook one or two sandwiches at a time, but isn't
outrageously expensive. Do any of you own one that you can recommend?
Thanks!

I have Wolfgang Puck's panini grill, and really like it. The plates detach
and can be put in the
dishwasher, too. I bought it from hsn.com.

I'll check it out. . .The detachable plates, would be a real benefit!
Thanks!

I have a Cuisanart, it has detachable grilling plates and it can also
be used with out the panini plates, and can be used as a flat grill.
I like it, but have trouble getting the plates off.

I've been meaning to upgrade my tiny Foreman grill.
I've seen panini grills that never seem to latch closed. The hinge doesn't
float high enough and won't latch or doesn't rest evenly on a hefty
sandwich from back to front, similar to my micro Foreman grill.
I have my heart set on Monte Cristo, Reuben and Patty Melts, for when I can
start getting fat for winter! 🙂

I'm with you Andy. The weather has cooled a bit, here in
Sacramento. You can definitely feel Autumn in the air. I've been
hauling out the Crock Pot, and looking at "comfort food" recipes, the
last couple of days.
But Patty Melts and Monte Cristos sound really good too!
I have no idea, where this year has gone!

I bought the Villaware at BJ's a couple of years ago for $49.99/$50 I love
it. Here it is at amazon

We've got a Cuisinart, too, and we really like it. It's more
than just a Panini press. (Down with uni-taskers!) I don't
have any trouble getting the plates off. (Removable plates
are an absolute requirement!)
My only complaint is that it really ought to have a third
set of plates, a waffle iron. This just seems like such an
obviously good fit for the device that it's surprising they
don't make them.
But that's a quibble, really, and I knew it didn't have
waffle iron plates when I bought it.

Myrl,
Same place as last year? 😉
My crock pot needs dusting. 🙁

Don't feel bad Nancy! I began swimming laps about a year and a half
ago. I figure I'm swimming 150 laps (about 2 miles), 4 or 5 times a
week.
I know I'm burning a ton of calories. Unfortunately, I begin having
visions of things to cook while I'm swimming those laps. I'm famished
when I get out of the pool, so I usually drive through the Taco Bell
first. I'm roughly guessing 750 calories burned in the pool, but
there's 1100 calories in the Taco Bell bag.
I haven't lost a pound, but I haven't gained any either. And I'm less
fluffy, than I was before.
I had hoped to do a swim to Fisherman's Wharf, from Alcatraz next
Spring. I can handle the distance, and I can handle the waves. I'm
not too afraid of the sharks, after figuring there are actually more
sharks on land, than ever dwelled in the sea. . .But alas, there is
absolutely NO WAY I can handle the temperature of the water!

Be sure the plates can be detached and washed. I have one that can't and
cleaning it is extremely hard. So much so I rarely use it because a
sandwich, regardless of how good, simply does not justify the rime and
effort to clean the damn thing.

Myrl, that is a lot of work, I am really proud of you. Keep practicing,
I know you can do it. The sharks do not bother me, but I am a WWW, warm
water wimp. I shiver if the water is below 85 (F). I will keep my
fingers crossed that you have warm water.

I was over at Walmart awhile ago. They only had a GE - it looked
good, but didn't have removable plates! From what you guys have told
me, I really am focusing on a Cuisinart, or the Wolfgang Puck models!

As far as I can see a Panini is a grilled cheese sandwich, why do you
need a dedicated machine to make one?
