We travel to PCB often to visit relatives (I take the Sport bike, but never
the MTB 🙂 ). And, you are correct...it's very flat. There are LOTS of
woods though, so it won't be hard finding dirt trails. The good news is,
you're only a few hours away from the Appalachian Foothills in LA and GA,
and there are pleanty of good single tracks there.

he hasn't posted since just before the hurricane hit, when he was getting
ready to hunker down with his generator....? Not that he was posting a lot

I've lived here for a number of years after moving from Missouri. The
trails are completely different, but you'll get used to it after a while.

The closest trails to PC are in Pine Log State Forest. The Crooked Creek
trail is on the East side of Hwy 79, about 10 miles north of Panama City
Beach. The trail is roughly 10 miles long and is mostly flat, but a good
workout. Another trail is just north of Crooked Creek on the west side of
hwy 79 in the Sand Pond campground area. This trail is about 6 miles and is
slightly more technical. Both trails are beginner to light intermediate
level. There are signs denoting the parking areas. It costs $1.00 per
person to park, or you can buy an annual pass.

Another trail is west of PC in Seaside. There is 20 miles of paved bicycle
path, and about 8 miles of single track called the Long Leaf Pine Greenway
which starts just north of Seaside on 395. There are also about 20 miles of
double track in the Point Washington State Forest, adjacent to the Long Leaf
Pine Greenway.

Other than that, there are some trails in Eglin AFB near Fort Walton which
are pretty cool, and some nice trails in Tallahassee such as Tom Brown Park.

found, although you have to poke through and figure out where a lot of these
places are.

If you get a chance, definitely head down to Ocala and spend the weekend.
It's about a 4.5 hour drive. Ride Razorback in Reddick, FL, and also Santos
in Belleview. About 60 miles of really nice single track....completely out
of place for Florida. Razorback is very technical, especially for this
area.

I'd offer to meet up with you and ride, but I'm getting ready to move to the
Daytona area in a few weeks. But definitely keep posting here.

Many schools in the hard-hit areas actually canceled school for the rest of
the semester, starting back up for the spring. The infrastructure was hit
so incredibly bad that there was no way to hold school, since there was no
power or water. It was an estimated weeks-to-months before power was to get
back to everyone.

A road bike may be a good investment....lots of tri-geeks in the area. The
last poster mentioned Pine Log and Tallahassee which is your best bet.
Pensacola, about 2 hours away, has some okay trails once the Ivan trees are
removed (www.porc.org). A great weekend ride is about 4 hours away in
B'ham, Alabama - Oak Mountain State Park (www.bump.org).

weekend of riding. I'd be more inclined to head North instead for
some hills.
