Quoted message said:I have to agree. Its not a World Cup, but I think its safe to say JP
would have won Nat's had he been healthy, along with at least 3 or 4
other races in the U.S. Is he at least topping the UCI ranking for
U.S. riders now? Besides, he followed it up with top 5 the next day.
I think its safe to say JP's not on the Nys level, but he's definitely
taken it up a notch this year. It bodes well for World's.
CH
he wont be more then about 25th after all this. The euros got all
those world cup points, and he missed the last one with the foot. he
will pass johnson, but not wicks, i think.
you could argue that he was at this level about a month ago, with a
pair of 7th places in GVA and Super Prestige races that weekend, but
then it was off to nats and all that, and is just now coming back to
that form. I think he is a bit stronger then he was a month ago, and
seems to be building.
the other thing to note is that the euros are totally peaked for this
coming weekend, and traditionally the US riders have trouble this week
as a result of the non-dovetailed seasons in the US and Europe.
This year the other US guys seemed like they were about to step it up,
too. The juniors are looking GOOD, damn! Imagine if they were there
all year? They have the talent, now if they were just Belgian and
lived there, they would be winning world cups and U23 worlds, and later
elite worlds. I think our past "success" in the junior ranks goes to
show that in cross, maybe more then other disciplines, the racing scene
and experience with conditions, etc. are a much more important facet of
success.
Many of our juniors can hang with the best, and win world championship
medals. Our U23's struggle a bit, and our elites get shelled. Well,
the elites are turning the corner too, after committing (trebon,
wicks).
But that is just my 2 cents. Its hard to see objectively passed JP's
scrotum, what with all the head I have to give and all.
