Reportedly, a motorbike knocked a ballustrade into the course in front of
Wellens, who crashed. Nys hit Wellen's downed bike and crashed, too. An
anonymous source revealed that the motorbike was driven by Corie Page.

You guys are the biggest trolls on RBR. It's so tiresome hearing the
same old [censored] to egg on Page supporters. While I'm surprised a bit by
his 2nd place, he rode a clean race, which is as much a part of racing
as anything. Nys crashed last year and this year and he's rarely
performed well at Worlds. Maybe the results will help solidify cross
in the US and bring some more support, and maybe guys good best at
cross in the US will stick with cross instead of hopeless careers on
the road.

As for being out of work, I think PAge won't have problems getting
some cash in 2007.

Dave Berg who worked for Mad Magazine. One of his strips is quite suitable
here: A chubby high school kid is standing next to a girl. He says, "See

Page wasn't the stongest, but what counts in cyclo-cross is much more than
only strenght. Fortunately there other qualities which count, like skill,
dexterity, insight, etc. On this extremely difficult course Page rode a
nearly perfect race. Nijs, Wellens, Vervecken, Groenendaal and all the other
favorites did not. If he had won, it certainly wouldn't have been
undeserved.

I wasn't there, but think Page had an exceptional day (probaly his
best) and I doubt he would not have made the podium because he's got a
good finish. It sucks for Wellens, but the dude really made himself
look like an ass with those comments. Either, this sport is so much
about luck too, especially in a one day race...I'm sure many wish they
could rewrite their races - Sean Kelly probably has a few.

Jealous much? Page may be an "out of work dufus" but he's one with a silver medal
from World's. I'd bet that he's got more medals than the number of times you've
participated in a World's event.

And even if "all the faves crashed out" that's part of racing. As they say, "To
finish first you must first finish." They didn't; Page did.

Wellens was taken out by a TV vehicle, which is different than crashing
on his own accord. Given this, Wellens has a strong claim to deserving
to be on the podium, or at least having deserved a fairer shot at it.

But of course, nobody can say for sure, so neither should he. But maybe
his quote is out of context.
