Packable Casual Shoes

Leather loafers? They tend to flatten down pretty well.

Aqua shoes, light flat and ok in water. Someone suggested them as an alternative to cleats to wear after arrival.

I agree, I bought a pair for $4 that I've used for 2 years of touring/camping.
Small, light, waterproof, sturdy. And look 'presentable' for public if you wear them with socks.

Did you ever consider Cycling Sandals with SPD compatible Cleats? My wife & I both have worn them for years, while touring, and find them great. They are quite comfortable for walking and riding and best of all, dry very quickly while still on your feet after a rain.

I always pack my running shoes. They get stuck in a bag on top of everything else so I can get to them quickly. When you're wondering around some strange city for hours it pays to have really comfy shoes!
