  1. It's nice to see he's changed his sig on his posts. now it claims:

"One third of roads fatalities are now caused by speed
    cameras"

now this is interesting. as fatality levels haven't dropped
significantly since speed cameras have come in, this means
there were thousands of accidents caused by something else
that just ceased when speed cameras came in, to be replaced,
one assumes by speed camera-related deaths. Hmmm.

Which in itself is interesting. How do speed cameras kill
thousands of people? Other than falling on them. Or are
they in fact microwave emitters designed to slowly cook
    drivers to death?

Please do explain. Or have you left out the words, "the
absence of" between by and speed. Or perhaps the word
"cameras" is in the place of a full stop.

    Please do explain.

It's very simple. *Anyone* looking at the fatal accident
rate trend in 1993 would have predicted between 2,000 to
2,200 road deaths per annum on the roads by now. We have
not had that reduction. It's been stuck at 3,400 pa. With
30% of the 2003 figures in, it's looking like a substantial
rise in 2003 of 5% to 8%, giving a road deaths figure of
    3,600 to 3,700.

    (3600-2200)/3600 = 38.9%

I believe that the reason we didn't get the expected
reduction is because we've had a dangerously [censored] road
safety policy based on "speed kills" and speed cameras.

But then it could have been because we reached the

You believe. Well that's a fact at least. The fact that
you ignore the evidence and skew what you don't ignore is
also a fact. Perhaps it's time that some sort of award was
made at a road safety conference for the most wilful,

Because not all of us feel that removing all pedestrian and
cyclist traffic from the public road system and turning the
public roadways over for the exclusive use of motorised
vehicles is appropriate, even if it does bring down the
accident rate for non-occupants. Cheers, Euan Gawnsoft:

I wouldn't agree that "turning the public roadways over for

    road safety policy.
