Richard: I have a freind that I met this summer riding the Michigan West tour on a Bike-Saturday
fordable. He was a little slow admitidley (by himself), but made all the hills and trained every
other day with liquid (powder) nutrition, and added miles. I was following his times on the PBP
page and he either abandoned the ride after 20+ hrs or he fell behind the alloted time
restrictions I don't know which. He rode in on his V-rex. He is also 60+ yrs old. I don't know if
that helps or not, Depending where you are from you may even know him, Joe Keenen, was from NY NJ
area, and was riding some this winter in Fla.

Found a great site not too long ago (I am a RUSA member and did a 200km on my R40 - but I don't do
well over 12 hours on the bike - I get stupid.

Richard, I frequently review www.mars.com the metropolitan area recumbent society. I do know that one of the members has been actively training for the pbp I do not recall his name but you might want to inquire through that site.frank

Last year I did my first brevet series (200, 300, 400 and 600K) on my Aerocycle with a coroplast
tailbox. I have yet to do a 1200K, but was very comfortable at distances up to 600. Also, on the
flats and into headwinds I had a terrific advantage. Hopefully Zach Kaplan will check in on this, I
believe he did PBP on a Festina lowracer one year.

Hi Richard,

There are a number of bents riding it right now. According to the pieces of information I have,
there are at least:

- 1 Barcroft Virginia riden by an American
- 5 Optima Baron from Australia and France
- 1 Stinger from Australia (abandoned after 600km)
- 2 Raz-Faz from Germany
- 1 Flux from Germany
- 1 M5 20/26 from Holland
- 1 Zox from France (resigned)
- 1 fully faired Leitra from Germany
- a couple of trikes from Australia and UK
- 1 P38 from Canada

The Raz-Faz, some Barons and the Leitra are doing well although not in the leading places.

If you've finished it once you probably know better than I how difficult it is to ride consistently
over such a distance. There are good reasons why it should be a little bit more confortable on a
bent. I don't think there are major slopes to climb except maybe in Brittany where it's a little bit
more hilly.

I know of 4 ICE recumbent trikes that are doing it this year, one of them is a tandem.

I did PBP on a Festina lowracer in 1999. It was a very positive experience and the long term
comfort was great. If I were to do it this year (which I'm not, PBP is taking place as I type
this), I would take my Bacchetta Aero for its lighter weight and lower rolling resistance . PBP has
a lot of climbing.
