  1. So, there I am this morning, out in the middle of the Mojave Desert, just me
and my little, weightless, S&W 340PD scandium/titanium .357 magnum revolver.

First up, Winchester 130 gr FMJ .38Sp, a nice, light, standard pressure
target load. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. No biggie.

Next, Federal 158 gr LSWHP +P .38Sp, the load I normally carry in my S&W
Bodyguards. BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG. As unpleasant to shoot as it is in
the alloy Lightweight Bodyguard, but no worse.

Okey, dokey, now to why I'm out here. Corbon 125 gr JHP .357 magnum, one of
the hottest factory loads available. Damn, those cartridges look too large
for this little gun. Hmmm...they do seem to fit in the chambers.
Okay...WAIT! Better adjust my hearing protection. There. Better. And,
now...WAIT, WAIT! I'm thirsty, better have some water. Ah. Much better. Oh,
look, what an interesting cloud formation...

I'm an atheist, but, what the hell: let us pray. Dear Lord BLAM!!!! HOLY
[censored]!!! WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!? OW! OW OW OW!!! Christ, that hurt.
Uh...where's the blood coming from? Damn! That little sucker recoiled so
violently, my trigger finger got cut on the inside of the trigger guard.
Well, BLAM!!!! OW! BLAM!!!! OW OW OW OW OW! <shaking hand, trying to get the
feeling back> Ya' know, except for the pain, this is pretty kewl. I've got
big hands, am pretty strong, have over 200 pounds of ballast, and am not
particularly recoil shy, and except for the pain, this little beauty is
fairly easy to control. BLAM!!!! OW OW OW BLAM!!!!! DONE!

I think I'll skip the Magnaporting. The gun's controllable with .357s, but
if I ever have to actually shoot somebody with it, when I'm done shooting,
I'm gonna' beat the [censored] out of the guy for causing me such pain!

Next time, my Ruger Single Six .22, so I can remember what fun shooting is.

When I read stuff like this, I always wonder what the little people do with

    warning label.

Caution: If you are a wimp, this gun will break your hand!!

    Or something similar .........

Somewhere I remember reading that large loads make it hard to shoot
people because the recoil makes re-targeting a real challenge. Unless
you've tied them to a fence or something I suppose.

I don't know much about guns, but would it be safe to say that a weapon
intended for self defense, a light pistol like this should be loaded
    with a lighter load?

Depends on the size of the handgun.
My .357 Ruger Redhawk is quite accurate thank you.
    With .38 or .357 rounds...

    It looks like a mini-cannon.
Not a good CW gun. <lol>
But adequate for home defense which is why I bought it.

    - bc

No. For home defense, one needs a BIGGER GUN!!!

Personally, I can't hit [censored] with a gun that fits in the palm of my
hand. :-( But that's just me. I've since opted for larger weapons.

I hit my target with those, thanks!

The new S&W semi-automatic 9mm has yet to be fired, but I've test fired
similar weapons and did ok. I'll be taking my CW class with this one so
    time will tell...

    Cheers!

Or the little people need to use the proper load. This gun would be PERFECT

    is in
the alloy Lightweight Bodyguard, but no worse.

Okey, dokey, now to why I'm out here. Corbon 125 gr JHP .357 magnum,
    one of
the hottest factory loads available. Damn, those cartridges look too
    large
for this little gun. Hmmm...they do seem to fit in the chambers.
Okay...WAIT! Better adjust my hearing protection. There. Better. And,
now...WAIT, WAIT! I'm thirsty, better have some water. Ah. Much better.
    Oh,
look, what an interesting cloud formation...

I'm an atheist, but, what the hell: let us pray. Dear Lord BLAM!!!!
    HOLY
[censored]!!! WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!? OW! OW OW OW!!! Christ, that hurt.
Uh...where's the blood coming from? Damn! That little sucker recoiled
    so
violently, my trigger finger got cut on the inside of the trigger
    guard.
Well, BLAM!!!! OW! BLAM!!!! OW OW OW OW OW! <shaking hand, trying to
    get the
feeling back> Ya' know, except for the pain, this is pretty kewl. I've
    got
big hands, am pretty strong, have over 200 pounds of ballast, and am
    not
particularly recoil shy, and except for the pain, this little beauty is
fairly easy to control. BLAM!!!! OW OW OW BLAM!!!!! DONE!

I think I'll skip the Magnaporting. The gun's controllable with .357s,
    but
if I ever have to actually shoot somebody with it, when I'm done
    shooting,
I'm gonna' beat the [censored] out of the guy for causing me such pain!

Next time, my Ruger Single Six .22, so I can remember what fun shooting
    is.

IMHO .357 rounds don't belong in small guns...... ;-)

Somewhere I remember reading that large loads make it hard to shoot
people because the recoil makes re-targeting a real challenge. Unless
you've tied them to a fence or something I suppose.

This can be true, but, in this case, the little gun with full power loads is
perfectly controllable, for me, just damned painful.

    No.

When I walk around with my S&W 360 - hammered version of the above - I
load .357 mag Black Talons. One shot stops are a Good Thing.

There was that FBI thing that .357 mag had the highest one-shot-stop
