  1. Hi, I started bike commuting this year for the first time in about 10 years & so far it's been
great. As the weather got wetter I bought a pair of Altura Cascade overtrousers in XL as they seemed
the right size. After I've warmed up they remain loose around the waist & lower legs but are tight &
retrictive on the thighs. B*gger, I thought, and ordered a pair of Altura Drylines in XXL as I
figured I could cope with too big round the waist as long as they had room on the thighs; these are
about to go back as they are just as tight if not tighter.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Has anyone got any suggestions about brands that are cut looser
in the thigh? I'm sure it cant be that unusual for cyclists to have leg muscles:-( Any help or
sugestions would be *very* much appreciated. Thanks in advance Jake

I got Freestyle pertex overtrousers, Medium. They are baggy round my thighs. They appear to be about
70cm circumference where it matters which is more than enough for my 58 cm thighs.

How big are yours, if its not too rude to ask ;o)

I never find it necessary to wear overtrousers even though I've got a Goretex pair from a few year
back. A good pair of cycling tights - I use the Endura ones - keep you warm even when its raining
and dry out pretty quickly when it stops. I find that much easier than the sweat and on-off of
    waterproof trousers.

Mountain Equipment Drilite Plus are quite baggy on the thighs - probably because they are not
designed specifically for cycling. They're good on the bike for emergency "storm" use, though. Clips
or bands be used to deal with the flappy ankles. Expensive but that's what you pay for the
ultra-lightweight "breathable"* material with all the features.

    See www.cotswold-outdoor.com/Cat/3324

    * can still get sweaty so best saved for heavy rain in the winter months only. The zips help with
ventilatation. Seat is not reinforced so I would worry about wearing out or splittling if used on
    a daily basis.

  5. I go MTB'ing in a pair of Sprayway Mountain Rain waterproof trousers. At 100 quid they're not cheap
(and i've cut them off to match the length of my 3/4 length shorts) but they've never let a drop of
water thru & they're nice and baggy (mine are L size & i'm 6ft2 with reasonably wide legs!). Would
be nice if they had a pocket though...

It never gets cold enough to stop wearing Lycra shorts here in Edinburgh.

Ooh. They're well 'ard up north.

I wear my Mountain Equipment Co-op pair (Goretex front, stretchy backs) but being from N Ireland I
could easily do without them, if I wanted.

Goretex Bikewear trousers are quite baggy (I wear them over loose fitting trousers, and have ample
thighs), they're also less clammy then most, since there's only the PTFE membrane and the barest
minimum of open weave outer fabric.
