  1. Hey, we had a touchdown here today in the doctor's office.
Conventional medicine doctor approved of a supplement,
"Premier Labs", Raw Thyroid, prescribed to a patient with a
thyroid problem.....doctor read up on the information on the
patient's problem, and read up on the products available,
and wholly endorsed the product. Whatta good day!!!

He's nuts. This is what this potentially dangerous product
contains (from New Zealand cattle that you hope are free of
    prions or other transmissable agents.).

Thyroid Tissue 50 mg ? Adrenal Tissue 20 mg ?
Pituitary Tissue 10 mg ? Thymus Tissue 5 mg ? Spleen
    Tissue 5 mg ? Kelp 300 mg ?

Lots of potential there for stuffing up someone's hormonal
environment. The purchaser's best hope is that the product
is inert. However, dessicated animal thyroid used to be used
within medicine for thyoid insufficiency, It was very
variable in activity. Who would trust this crowd to ensure
that each batch had comparable biological activity? At
$12.75 for sixty capsules I will bet this product is never
    so tested or standadised.

    Conventional doctors still prescribe Armour
    Thyroid...believe that it is pork.

Who cares what you think, Peter....the product was
prescribed for someone other than yourself, and therefore,
you shouldn't be worried about it...the person is under a
conventional doctor's care.....I'm sure he was aware of what
he was prescribing when he prescribed it..

Conventional doctors who still live in the stone age, maybe.
They're the ones who still prescribe triple bromides, too.

Animal derived thyroid hormone was famously variable in
its content and bioavailability; that's why synthetics
(tested, standardized) are now the standard of care. I
talked to an endocrinologist the other day who said that
among the hundreds of patients he has on thyroid hormone,
only ONE still uses animal-derived product, and that's a
little old lady who has been on it since the 60's and
    refuses to change.

Armour thyroid is Dessicated thyroid USP, which has been
used for hypothyroidism for a century, and which has to
conform to similar quality standards as a drug. . The
problems with stabilising hypothyroidism with variable
animal products may still hold, but may be less now that we
have an accurate simple test in the form of TSH as a guide.
There is certainly no evidence that thyroid gland products
are in general superior to thyroxine.

If it is of no concern to us, why are you here promoting
it? Once you have done that, it is vital that people are
    warned anout it.

There are some bad doctors about, and if all that you state
is true, this is one of them. . I don't think ANYONE should
be taking such a product. As something marketed as a
"supplement", you have no assurance that it contains
standardised levels of thyroid hormones, and the adrenal and
pituitary content can only do harm by inducing Cushing's
disease (hyperadrenalism) and other hormonal problems.

I would make sure he does know the full contents of this
product. If he does, and does not see a problem with it,
    find another doctor.

  6. Did the doctor read any scientific studies on the product
    firt? Anth

Consider the source of the anecdote. Most likely, it didn't
happen. If the entire event isn't pure fiction, then
perhaps a MD suggested that a person take a particular
supplement as opposed to taking something more dangerous or
    nothing at all.

You can say what you like on this newsgroup (apparently) but
that does not mean your opinions will not be challenged if
they can lead to bad medicine.

I am very happy to have my judgement on this particular
issue tested against anyone. For your information I am still
registered as a specialist surgeon in Australia, and am
still a full fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of
Australia (also of England, but unfinancial at the moment
and likely to remain so now I am retired)..

So be it. I do not resile. I will also eat my hat if this
person is an endocrinologist, which is the only specialty of
relevance here. (Thyroid surgery was part of my field which
involves considerable extra training in the field)

I'm sure this doctor will take your non-expert advise with

after all the product (I saw the bottle), has directions

capsule a day, or as directed by your physician....

I await your further information on this "doctor" with
great interest. First let me see what HIS qualifications
    really are!!!.

So far you have shown no awareness of the problems I
raise. Why be giving a person with thyroid failure adrenal
and pituitary hormones? Do you have any idea of the
    dangers of such? .
